Upgrading from a Lexicon Mpx500...

I like the mpx500 - it helps me write music. The only thing great about it for me is the plates and tremolo (but I can't patch reverb after the tremolo). I'm looking to upgrade to something that will inspire to play and write more - you know, get lost in the process. For the most part, I haven't bought into the big verbs and ambient spaces the Lexi puts out.

What I'm looking for is something that can do the spacey 3d ambience (and a good tremolo!) and I'd like to start experimenting with subtle harmonizing effects (I find the mpx500 useless for pitch effects).

I've narrowed it down to the Eventide eclipse but I'm concerned that it just won't be all that much a step up with concern to the verbs.

Looking for some feedback with those who have experience with these (or similar) units.

I thought the verbs were very good in the Eclipse. To me they didn't sound like a Lex, but they have a certain something and I liked the sound a lot. I think it could be good in your application but you'll have to suck it and see!

There's no USB - you'll be doing any software updates via the serial (RS232) interface so you had better make sure you've got one. Having said that, it's rare you'll need to do it.

Using MIDI you can control virtually everything.

I'm not sure if there's a PC MIDI editor for the Eclipse. The bigger boys like the 7600 have that sort of thing. In fact, if you can afford one of those, I'll think you'll be a lot happier in the long run, certainly check one out if you've got the budget.

What's the lowest model that would qualify as "the bigger boys?"

It's a fairly big plus to be able to adust parameters via my pc (and save them).
