Anyone Using The Cranesong HEDD?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at one of these units and so far leaning on the Cranesong HEDD. However, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Cranesong HEDD and perhaps have used it side-by-side with the following units.

1. Mytek Stereo96 ADC & DAC

2. Lavry Black AD-10 & DA-10

3. Apogee Rosetta 200

If I don't go with the HEDD, then the Mytek or the Lavry would probably be my next choice.

Any input would be most appreciated!

Best,
Jamie

Hi: I use hedd 192 side-by-side with a rosetta 800 daily. It is a great converter. Very transparent and dsp is very nice if you use it moderately. Perhaps i would change rosetta for a mytek 8x192, but the hedd 192 will stay here with me, jaja.

Cheers, hernan.

i use the hedd daily. i prefer it the the ones you have listed although they are all great converters. depending on what you're are doing the burl is another great option.

Thanks guys for your replies!

I'm producing mostly my own music right now. I do everything from Jazz, Rock, Alternative, etc.

I also thought with the HEDD, it could be nice to maybe help enhance other artist mixes and perhaps pick up some extra work as well.

Checking out the Burl you mentioned dhiltonlittle. Never heard of these before.

Got 2 hedds over here... I still use one for my master output from the SSL into Pro Tools -- I'm sure the BURL is just as good but for now, the hedd's got the job.

Try to see if it's to your liking.... some people would rather choose Lavry.... I tried it but went back to hedd.

The HEDD imparts less character onto the sound than the Apogee. Lets more color of the source come through. The Apogee is more forward sounding.

If you were 2 do all your tracking with a Lavry Gold or a Cranesong hedd is that over saturated with color? I know its about preference but i just want to get a poll on this.
also can u run these devices with PT m-powered? also is AES superior to spidif?

+1 on the HEDD and +2 for the "tape" and "tube" DSP. it's the best tape and tube emulation i've heard outside the Sonnox Dynamics "warmth" parameter (the sleeper surprise winner of all of my saturation plugs).

a friend had the Mytek and brought it over. we did a lot of A/B comparison between it and the HEDD. both were very good. we seemed to think the Mytek sounded better on electronic/dance music (tighter in the bass we thought) but this stuff can be so placebo effect. they were both quite great.

however, the DSP on the HEDD tips it over the edge... and, as well, after hearing my HEDD my friend sold his Mytek and got a HEDD.

can't go wrong with any of those you mentioned though.
