Thread Starter | Speck Lilo First Impressions?
Anyone out there actually had a chance to use the Speck Lilo? First impressions etc.? How does it compare soundwise to the other summing boxes (or to the Xtramix etc.)?

It's very clear sounding... and very flexible. On a sonic level it's probably closer to the Dangerous stuff than most of the other summing boxes I've heard with the possible exception of the Folcrum with John Hardy pre's.

So I checked out the LiLo at AES this weekend, and I've got to say I was REALLY impressed! ![]() Does anyone own one of these? Fletcher, do you have one hooked up to demo if I came to Boston? -wolfie |

I've been wondering if anyone has actually bought one. Maybe the price is a little high for most. It does look like a very nice setup though.

Maybe, although per input it's a steal....16 channels of Tonelux with manual faders (the alternative I'm considering) would be at least as much.....plus there's the whole B-path thing....

The Lilo is the Mixer of choice in my studio. Hey i think i have the best studio in the world and the Lilo is part of that reason. I'll bet its cleaner than any Neve or SSL board. I can get all the color I want out of a vast selection of outboard gear that can easily be inserted in the balanced insert jacks on every channel of the Lilo. I can also get color from using different pres. So the mixer is the one place i dont want to be locked into a certain color. I feed the board from an ApogeeDA16X into the main channels with faders and then my 16 tracks of keyboards get fed live into the B line inputs. (without faders) so I have a 32 channel mixer plus 2 stereo effects returns (36 channels) Craig C. CalistroMusic.com |

i got the xsum which i believe has a similiar summing circuit topology. (same op amps etc) however, fletcher and of course vince would know better. feed it with 2 apogee da-16's and also 7 channels of analog synths and have tons of great outboard eq and compression in between (pultecs /api/fearns/la-2a's/distressors etc). this is where you can dial in the color. i LOVE this new setup. i think i rival much bigger studios in terms of sonics i can achieve. if you are scared on dropping $$$ for lilo , try out the xsum first. might give you a good idea of the sound you'll get. or get the xsum and a ton more outboard for the same price thumbsup . regards, electric |

Electric, with the Xsum, what do you do as far as monitoring the summed output? Peece, T. Tauri |

hi ttauri, the output of the xsum goes to a bryston 4bst ----> then to tannoy dmt 12 mkII's (or mackie hr824s without the bryston) . trying to get my auratones in the mix too. electric |

hey ttauri, ask vince at speck about this. i think there is a second MIX A output on the RJ45 connector jack that acts as "link-mix" when connecting to another xsum or the lilo. you might be able to use this to send to your 2track. however, i havent tried myself. i repatch to my ad converter when i mixdown. there is also a MIX B output on the RJ45 connector and a "link mix" return in. since i started mixing analog synths (omega8 etc) without going through ad conversions my bass has been leaping out of the tracks. this is definitely a place where the analog mixer rules imo. regards, electric |
