What outboard would you add to this studio?

Hello fellow slutz of gear -

Here's what I got (see below) and I'd like to hear what you think would be great addition(s) to my outboard collection.

API 3124
API 2500
API 5500

Chandler TG2
Chandler TG1
Chandler MKII (2)

SSL Superanalogue Channel (2)

Vintech x73i (2)

Distressors EL8X (2)

STA Level

TC Electronic M2000 Reverb

** I also use an Apogee Symphony system with Logic Pro using a Dangerous ST and Dangerous 2Bus-LT. I have a good collection of mics ranging from Royer to Neumann. I do plan on getting more solid mics in the future, but I'm concentrating on the outboard.

I'm thinking about GML, Wunder and/or possibly some more comps...

fellow slutz lemme hear ya...

Some 1176's and LA2A's... a rack of Pultecs.... a Bricasti M7.... an Aurora Audio GTC2...

There are limitless choices and lots of areas you could address... It all depends on what you find lacking.

Since you like the color:

PRE
Phoenix DRS (butter)
Tab V78 (wood)

COMP
La2a (silk)
Dynamite (dirt)
my Fatso (splat)

EQ
Lil Freq (no color, but I can't imagine not having one)
Fearn (wood and shimmer)

I very much don't make a habit of recommending my own piece, but it does seem like a good fit for you.

Any thoughts or experiences with the Wunder gear (PA4 or the PEQ2) or the reference standard transparent GML pres?

I do love the LA2A and 1176 comps...but not totally sure about the UA reissues.

Also I find it to be an ultimately bad ass piece of gear for final mix processing. Not only do you pick up that sweet DSOP output section but those EQ's are very well suited for mix buss as well (they start out gentle and wide, and the points available are wonderful).

Interesting. The Phoenix DRS-Q4 looks really interesting. And I agree with you that those EQ points are very cool. More importantly for me, how do they sound when tracking? Drums, gtrs, bass....?

I found this review of the Phoenix:

Would you go for the Retro Instruments 176 or the UA 1176 or a vintage 1176?

for me, it would all come down to price.

the purple mc 77 or reissue used would be the route i would take.

That is my review, I am working very hard to have written reviews of everything I sell on my site.

They sound awesome when tracking, the EQ's start out quite wide and natural sounding and must be pushed hard for artifacts. Look at those available points and think about tracking those sources...we're talking spot on. I think there is +/- 16dB of cut and boost available so yeah, you can carve stuff up real nice if needed.

LA2A,DBX160VU,Dynamite.I haven't used but hear the API 2500 is nice.
On my possible list.

+ Either a good pair of 1176's of any sort or Something like the Studio Electronics C2s. I just bought mine for $1025.00 for 2 1176 style channels used. As a twist,It has a 1272 output transformer for more of a Neve-ish finish.

Oh, and if you can find one, a Sony SRA-3 Tube(60's) tape preamp.
Very nice for warming things. Not too much cash either. Bought mine for $395.00. Similar vibe I guess as the 351.

When you're working what do you find lacking ? If you're not reaching for something that isn't there you don't need anything else.

DBX 160
Urei 1176
TC Electronic D Two
Lexicon PCM 81

That´s what i´d add. Don´t know what exactly you´re looking for, though.
