Quiet monitors...

OK - so I got fed up with trying to find the right venue for my studio and so have put the gear in the downstairs of my house as a mix room while I continue to evaluate bigger places HOWEVER I have neighbours and while they are not directly attatched to the mix room they very close SO I have put up heavy curtaining etc etc but also want to make sure I work at low levels in this room.
SO... what are the best monitors for acuracy at low levels? I like KRKs that i've used but are the little V4s still good running quiet? Hate Genelecs so no 1029 suggestions please!! Any ideas?

I use a pair of BBC designed LS3/5a's for things like this. There's a slight high bass hump to compensate for the lack of deep bass but they seem very accurate otherwise. The design is around 30 years old but they're still being made.

Cheers.

The sound is the important thing here- I don't want to spend a lot of money as this is a temporary solution but the mixes still have to sound great. I could do without a lot of time needed to learn a new sound but NS-10s quiet just don't work so well I find- I guess the ideal answer would be for someone to say how the KRK rockit powers sound awesome until you crank em up!!

Any idea where I can find a price for or get a demo of these?

Well as it's only for some temp nearfields no more than £400.
My favoured option is the KRK V4 but the RP series is interesting I think.
Any one know anything about the NS10mm? A baby NS 10 aparently! That would be perfect!

I have posted this a few times around here but I am really quite happy with my ADAM's S2A's. I have not used them enough yet to say for sure but so far these speaker make me very happy.

I have been finding that unlike all the other speakers I have used over the years (and I have used plenty) these are the first speakers that I don't subconsciously reach for the volume knob to try and get deeper into the mix. At low levels they offer great depth and they are accurate with panning.

Some people seem to dislike the ADAM line all together and some don't like the S2A's and prefer the S3A's but as I said so far I am very very happy with mine and for what you are looking for I think they would work out pretty well.

YMMV of course.

£400?

For that price I'll take ten pairs.

Oh sorry, you posted the part about £400 while I was posting my response.... I think the S2A's might be out of your price but maybe the ADAM ANF-10?? never heard them so I don't know.

Good luck...

an auratone, at tv-listening level, is the god of balances. occasionally switch over to one of your bigs in mono for eq choices, then back to the auratones.

crank it on the stereo bigs is to dial the lows, the panning, and the fx. ime people are very tolerant of 60 second blasts of music, probably because they quickly become conditioned to know that no matter how loud it is, it'll go away very shortly.

in any case, i love one speaker mono, nothing reveals frequency overlaps and conflicts more bluntly.

Don't know about "best", but consistency at various SPL is a design feature of PMC's transmission line speakers. I've posted on the TB2+ before so won't go on here. Very realistic frequency reproduction (down to 40-60 Hz or so) at all levels, and never harsh at any volume.

Thanks guys,
The £400 thing isn't an absolute but I feel I should get something that will suffice for that price.

Noone seems to want to be drawn on the KRK thing... noone using them or everyone using them cranked?
