Thread Starter | Bryston 3B vs 4B for NS-10M
I've seen both mentioned in all the NS-10M amp threads, plenty of!
I'm tossing up between a local Yamaha P2200 or a Bryston
I'd really like a Bryston from what people are saying (similarly a P2200, but I can't help think I'd be more pleased to have the Bryston)
I am one for aesthetics though, and I've seen a few of the 3Bs with the ST styling which I like. I'm not a big fan of the fat fonted 4Bryston lol but actually it's growing on me.
Eitherway, solely to be used as an amp for the NS-10M,
Will the 3B suffice? or is the 4B particularly better?

The 3B will indeed suffice. It's a great amp.

I've got a 3B with the Big Dorky Logo in a rack with 2 other Brystons that don't have it. More than one client has walked in and gone "Oooh... Brystons!" So I guess I'm okay with the Big Dorky Logo.

3B here......worked great for about 6 months, then died......The repair is free, but you have to buy the box (got mine without) and pay shipping, $65 later, it was fixed.

Yeah I can appreciate the warranty
To me, it seems like there's basically an AU$1000 difference.. so, given that I only want it for the NS-10Ms, go for the 3B? I'm just curious because about 80% or posts in the threads say 4B specifically. I'm sure they're basically the same amp, other than the power, but.. are they?

AFAIK, the 3&4 B use the same FET transistors, the 4B just has more power. That said I had a 4B on my NS-10 (it is all I have for Bryston, so shoot me ) and it really does make the NS-10 sound great.

and should i be concerned about the difference between the two?

Doesn't the Yamaha P2200 have too much balls for the NS 10 or is it the perfect match for those monitors?
Been looking into that for a while now as well since I've just planned to drop off my nEar experience 08 which are prolly not the most phenomenal monitors, though very neutral and with every monitor, you get used to them after a while.

Poweramps come with trim pots, or you can limit the amount of gain going into the speakers so you don't blow them.
Yamaha 2200 is a perfect amp for the ear fatiguers, but then again so is a 3B and so is an AB. I used to run NS10s off a 400 per side AB amp. Trims set to 12 o'clock. Never had an issue... except with the ear fatigue. But hey, that's just me!

3B is more than enough for NS10s. With a 4B you'll be attenuating a lot. Honestly, a Yamaha hi-fi amplifier is sufficient!
