Does anyone have anything good to say about monster cables

This could be the quietest thread of all time (chirp chirp chirp) crickets! By the way I have about 12 monster cables sp1000 and others.

I think if you search you will find many have spoke on this subject.

In general GuitarMart grade stuff is not that well loved around here.

If you like them use them.
I have bought them a few times in the past and I was always unable to figure out why they cost so much....,other than the packaging.

They sure don't make a difference to my ears.
Could be my ears?

Good luck!

I've heard a lot of bad things about them, but I've had a bunch of monster cables for years that have held up very well under at least moderate abuse. I'm happy with my approximately $1k worth of Monster cables, but I like Mogami and Canare with Switchcraft or Neutrik connectors as well.

You could use one to hang the next band member that says "I need more of me in the phones please!!!"

I have some of their guitar cords. Not the expensive models, they were the cheap ones. They do get rid of a lot of hum from guitar amps, as opposed to some other cables.

I've had guitarists who were elated when I unplugged the cable between their guitar and amp and put one of these on. Hum level goes way down.

OTOH, I think their concept of building impedence networks into cables is stupid. I wouldn't pay for their expensive stuff.

I have one of their 21' bass cords that cost me $50 back in 1991 'cuz I was on tour and this podunk music store in St. Thomas only had Monster Cable or compete shite. It still works. I know the complete shite cables would've been long gone.

That was the last time I went on tour without a soldering iron.

IMO, they're not bad cables, however, the hype and the exhorbitant pricing isn't justified for what you're actually getting. Learn to roll your own and you can do better for less money.

Hotwiredcables.com

On a related matter, if you don't want to make your own, I've gotten what I think were very good prices on nicely assembled Mogami cables of various types from http://www.hotwiredcables.com/. A little wait, but well worth it. As long as they're around, I doubt I'll buy any more Monster cables. (And no, I don't have any affiliation with that company, other than being a happy customer.)

this is interesting, as i noticed the opposite effect.. not with a guitar amp though. i had the unbalanced output from a synth going to a high gain overdrive pedal. through the monster it was rather hummy, but through a canare completely silent.

Say something good about Monster Cable....

their marketing plan worked out well.

I think they're decent cables.... just not for the price.
It is all hype.... the kind of gear that makes Guitar Center a load of Ca$h (a huge mark-up and PR that says it'll make everything it touches better).

I remember Monster cable being very difficult to solder. Especially when compared to something like Mogami, the Monster cable required you to heat it up much more before it would take the solder. This ended up creating more shorts and bad cables. Haven't used the store-bought stuff.

I bought into the hype about 7-8 years ago and bought a pair of 21 foot guitar cables...lifetime guarantee and all...

Absolute crap! I have replaced these things 3 times on one cable, and 4 times on the other (that's 4 cables for one, and 5 cables for the other).

Thank goodness for the lifetime guarantee.

Never again! I roll all my own...Mogami + Neutrik. Period.

You nailed it.

But they DO pass signal and also seem to last longer than the average Pro Co/Horizon garden variety stuff. I remember the first time I saw their 'Pro Quality' spdif digital cable... It was like $225 for a 10' coaxial.

They've also completely taken over the Consumer Audio/Home theater cabling at all the chains. Can you say profit center? Absolutely brilliant marketing!

The only thing positive is their marketing. Walk into Best Buy or Good Guys and look at all the Monster crap they sell. Power conditioners, iPod accessories, it is really astonishing.

That is probably the reason they don't care about a group of musicians slagging their product, because what we buy (or not) is a small fraction of what they sell.

monster cables are great...

for me to POOP on!!!!!

used to run a studio...had endorsement deal with monster through a local rep....had every thing they make practically....the only thing left working after 3 years are the tt cables...they are nice...

instrument cables....nope....short out often..buy some george L's

line/mic cables....just get canare or mogami and make em yourself.....believe me...it IS worth it...plus you can make them all yellow or orange so they are easily recognized trying to walk out with clients...

just my 2 cents....
