what VU meter for calibrating?

Hi I bought a used pro tools mix system and I noticed some different levels from the converters. its 2* 888/24 and 1* AD8000SE

what kind of VU meter is recommended for calibrating my Pro Tools rig?

thanks

I'd get a NTI miniator for the front, it outputs (into the A/D) +4dbu sine signals and has XLR balanced, RCA, and a ton of other features.

Analog Audio Generator Minirator MR2

Then get a Radio Shack Multimeter (or another quality one, there are ones that are more expensive). I have the one that's $50 and it's great. That's for measuring what's coming out of the D/A.

Extech Mini Auto Ranging Digital Multimeter - RadioShack.com

There are internet sites around that tell exact voltages, for instance +4 dbu is 1.23 volts so it's easy to see where things are at. These are necessary too for measuring general gain structure with analog gear (tape machines, analog outboard gear, and analog consoles).

Rane has a great site with all sorts of references about everything audio and electronic.

You may also want to measure your output with a non-intrusive instrument.
I definitely suggest you to get a second hand scope, or a VTVM.
Digital multimeters have a much lower impedance, so reading won't be accurate.
