Thread Starter | Lexicon 480 Hi. Has anyone compared the Lexicon 480 with the waves IR1 impulses of the 480? Thinking of running Waves IR1 as a piece of outboard, sending from a desk aux send and returning on the desk, but wondering if the sound will be as lush as a proper Lexicon 480. Thanks D.F. |

| It is my experience that random variations in modulation (time calc) is hard to reproduce in an IR. Kind of a snapshot where you see that motion is captured, not reproduced. Lexicons are famous for that motion. ruudman |

| Let's just say that I'm not letting my 480 go anytime soon. |

| And of course part of the magic of the really classic digital reverbs is in their analog circuitry. Yes, I know that the IR's are sampled through the analog I/O of the devices, but somehow it still doesn't feel the same. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the Waves and the Altiverb I/R. As plug-in reverb goes, they are tops. But there's a 3-dimensional depth or something subtle that a 480 has that is hard to replicate. I think of it more like the difference between micing a good Vox AC30 and using Amp Farm.

| Amen to that. My clients where bitching about the "High End" plugs after we (for whatever reason) swapped out the 300, 224XL, 480L, and even the PCM70 with Alitverb SD, R-1 etc., plugs. Even the biggest densest, bone head (bone eared?) clients noticed. We went back to the hardware big time. For once they where right. ![]()

| We sampled the 480 with the Yamaha SREV-1 and no one could tell which is is what in a blind test. Didn't sell the 480 though, but the 224X and AMS RMX-16 got the boot. |

was wondering about the new TC 6000 plugs though. on TC's website they say they are the exact same algorithms - but someone told me they're from the M3000, so just wondering if anyone's compared to a real 6000. | |

| Use IR's for REAL rooms, not hardware devices. Screw the multi delay type reverbs, those reverbs are DEAD. |
