Analog Mastering: Vari Mu leads into Höf Dynamic Master for last procedure

Better solutions (in this price range)?
I think Vari Mu will give a lot of color which is important for me
because in the moment i run everything on Pro Tools LE, so
digital, and the Dynamic Master should (hopefully) be a clean
limiter.

The best vari-mu for electronic music IMO is the Thermionic Culture Phoenix.

The Manley is better suited to rock. The other option is a Gyraf Gyratec X, I have never used one but have heard good things about it.

You will need decent DA/AD converters.

Not really... if your going for good quality conversion for a pretty decent price check out the Lynx Aurora stuff.. Every digidesign converter I have ever heard has sounded pretty grainy.

If your going to spend that much $ on a good compressor, better conversion would be the way to go.

I use an RME ADI-2 with a 002.

I send my mix through a sebatron valve amp and return it to pro tools through an rme adi-2. It works and I hear in improvement on the digi convertors. I would not want to say it is better than an apogee, lavry, lynx etc but it is exceptional value for what it does.

I also use the D/A as my main monitor and very much prefer it to the 002 d/a section.

Good luck.

How about buying one thing at a time and then you can decide how best compliment each unit after using it for a while?

Is a RME 800 better than a Digi 003?
If, why, they nearly have the same specs.

Ok,
I will check out the Thermionic. I have found a really good deal on it.
And with the money I save I could buy a ADI-2.

Could anybody post a demo of the Thermionic in hard action???

if you send me a short clip, I can give it some tube-love in the Gyraf Gyretex X vari-mu comp so you can get an idea.

Hello,
been a time.

So I found out that I should combine a
Thermionic (very interested in the new
SC version) with a faster compressor. I
think a RMS 775 could be it. Or could I
just get a Hoef Dynamic Master instead
of the RMS 775 and be done with it.
Or:
Thermionic, RMS 775 and Hoef (for 100%
peak stop)????????????????????

Please help Schizzo.

I took the new Phoenix SC and a Kurzweil PC361.
Now I am selling my 003 rack and buy me a RME 800 and Cubase 5.
Maybe a Hoef too because the reviews tell good storys about them.
And I have a real 100% limiter as an analog outboard equipment.
