Mastering Engineer for album (recommendations)

Hi All,

Seeking a top line mastering engineer to master a Fleetwood Mac meets U2ish record. Classic style, not too much compression needed..... I was thinking Bernie Grundman or Bob Ludwig..... what do you think?

Cheers!

Sure, Bob, Ted, and Bernie are classics. I'd add Greg Calbi to the list too. Plan plenty of time ahead for these guys. Several of other well-known guys would be appropriate too, and several other established pros that aren't necessarily the $400+/hr A-listers, but it seems like you want to stay in that top group. I would stay away from the real crushers for something like this. While Ted is known as a loud guy, he's more than capable of doing a dynamic record if you ask him. Some other guys, I'm not so sure.

You already mentioned Bernie G... he and David Donnelly (DNA Mastering, Studio City, CA) master most of my records, and they both do great work. They're both good at that classic style.

Well - if U2 is your reference then Arnie Acosta is the man who has worked on most of their releases - I think you can get in touch with him either at Santa Monica Mastering or The Mastering Lab

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Bob Olhsson mastered my last record at Georgetown Masters. No regrets! Bob knows old school.

Grundman mastered my last two projects, Steve Hall before that. Both guys did an excellent job.
