Thread Starter | Analog summing ...
Hi everyone, if i want to sum protools outputs into more than 16x2 TubeTech SSA-2A, does it be technicaly right to use, for instance, 4 SSA-2A ( which represents 64 input ) summed into an other SSA-2A who sums the 4 stereo master ouputs from the SSA-2A ? I know it works but i would like to know if it's purely identical to have 64x2 analog summing ... Thank you. |

Julien, I owned an SSA2A. It's not the same like how you'd like it to be. Btw, it's 20x2 (4 mono, 8 stereo).

Yes but i don't use the 4 mono inputs ... My question is if it's right to use 4 SSA-2A together summed into an other SSA-2A. Thanks ... |

I use the mono part for kick/snare/bass/vocal. For the rest, i think u can make it like how you intend it to be, however, you have to be careful with gain matching from one box to another. The SSA is not made with the intention to link with another. I think the SPL Mixdream is made more to link from one to another. |

I have read on Mix that the analog summing SSA-2A is expandable to 16 stereo inputs. Is-it right ?

I don´t see a problem why you couldn´t cascade two tubetechs by sending the Master outs of your first unit into the first two mono ins of your 2nd unit.... The problem with most of the summing boxes, I´ve seen is: If you have 16, 32, 48, 64 channels WITHOUT A FADER.......and they´re all open......you´ll gain some groundnoise / hiss. My SPL Mixdream can switch off single channels if they´re not used |

I dont see why it won't work. Last time I checked, a SSA2A cost $3500US. 4 plus another one to sum them all together is $17,500. About the same as an impressive, feature packed console. |
