Guitar Cab Mic-Ups

Hi Guys
Just a couple of 24 bit short wav files of some guitar cab mic-ups.
These were done with one of Bens custom Mics (that he built for me).
Its very similar to the Arabella (same capsule)...similar tone too, but this mic uses a 6072A style tube ...anyway Ben recently upgraded it and I put a 12AX7 Amperex Bugelboy in it ...magic.
It has a certain density in the low end that I just love...perfect for vocals and guitars cabs too.
In these samples I placed the mic about a 18 inches away from the amp , a point to point 5e3 clone by Ceriatone with one 12'' celestion and thru a 99v pre amp.
The thing is I didn't even position the mic according to the sweet spot...cause it was late and I was tired LOL!!

The Tele is custom built (by me) with a light ash nitro sprayed body, maple neck and Lollar pups on it, it was played by a friend of mine thru a Peach Fuzz unit on a crunch setting
The Peach fuzz is an awesome little unit that doesn't destroy the amps tone...like most stomp pedals do. LOL!!
The Strat was played by me and it is also a Nitro finished top of the line Jap fender with Seymour Duncan Antiquity 2 surfers on it .
We stayed away from playing anything fancy as we wanted to just hear the tone.
Some EQ was used, a bit of Voxengo Overtone EQ to enhance the low end, and a bit of reverb ..no compression at all.
I cant do any A/B's (with other mics and stuff) as I am too busy...sorry...BUT personally I am pretty darn happy with these tones myself and I have used a lot of different gear over the years.
Cheers
Astro

Hi Anguswoodhead
Yeah I am pretty happy with these tones.
I used the Powercore VSS3 reverb on this...just set it up really quickly for a bit of spread.
Cheers Mate

Best bet is to send Ben an email.
Tell him what sort of thing you are looking for and let him point you in the right direction and give you a price.

The Studio series. are just 'cheaper' versions of the Jade, James and Arabella with OEM bodies, PCB boards and Glass tubes.
Jade & James have same NOS tubes as the Producer series but the Arabella GT has the 6AK5 Tube.

For those interested - my description of the BeesNeez range of Mics

why is it amusing? If a microphone sounds good, and you can justify spending the money, then whats wrong with owning an expensive Mic?

Yes the price difference is pretty obvious, Thanx for the rund down of the parts though..
but what I am wondering is how much difference is the sound from the 'Studio Series' compared to the original series..?
What does that extra money get you?

I think I read Ben saying somewhere else on GS that the different body makes a slight difference to the sound.
The Producer series bodies are amazing - heavy like a hunk of lead.

Found it...

Hi Guys.

Building a microphone is not all that different from building a house; if the foundations are strong and rigid, the finished product benefits.

The Producer series bodies are incredibly strong, they are in fact so rigid that they can structually withstand the weight of a car within their load bearing capacity. This benefits the mic in a number of ways as it provides the mic with a more stable and rigid building block in comparison to OEM style bodies.

The end result of using the more rigid foundation is a microphone that obtains it's character form the implimented circuit and capsule rather than the above and also added influences from the less rigid platform.

Whilst the studio series microphones may not be as structually sound as the Producer series mics, they do sound great and will hold there own against any mic.

cheers

Thanx woodhead and Ben..

Yes I am a bit torn to what mic to go with.. is it possible to hear a shoot out maybe?
I think that would be very helpful.

Cheers.

Also.. from all your mics Ben.. what mic would you recommend for singing and rap styles of music?
