Thread Starter | Klein hummel o110 & o300
I know that these Monitors have their fans in this forum. I heard the amp in the o300 is rather limited. I thought to upgrade from 8050 to o300 in the hope to get more midrange detail, although the 8050 isn't bad. (or to get the o110 as an additional system). If someone would listen at 85 dB, maximum 90 dB with the o300 in 1.80 meters distance. Do these speakers already start to compress transients or limit the signal at this level? This would be a very important thing because they should serve me both as mixing and mastering monitors. I also read the o110 have limited dynamics. I like the fast transient response of Adam monitors. regards |

The only time the limiter has ever kicked in at 85-90db on the 0300's for me is when I've had the kick drum or bass guitar unusably higher than needed. When I put in a mix that I've done (that is mixed correctly), for instance even a very thick low tuned metal band, even with kick drums wailing at 32nd notes and low B string on the bass, I can play the 0300's all day at least at 100db without any sign of the limiter. Once the mix is compressed/limited (as in a commercial release) they can go even a bit louder without limiting. Even some thicker alt/rock stuff like Radio Head where the bass is really thick (like Karma Police), it's loud enough for a small party where people can't have a conversation if they are in the same room as the speakers. So in other words, if you are mixing at 105db or above, these aren't the speakers for you...but if you are mixing that loud you won't be in the industry for very long due to hearing damage.

Test them! And test them in your own studio! The O300 is a great monitor. If you want more volume, you can add a O800 later and if your room is treated well, you should be fine! But i'm not sure if the O300 is the "upgrade" you're looking for. Maybe you just need a second reference monitor, like a pair of NS-10, Ginkos or Avantones. |

In my room, mixes can come out a bit boxy due to some light weakness at 300 Hz and 500 Hz. Also the Genelecs have a bit emphasized presence and mixes sound rather too soft on cheap systems. Room treatment is moderate. I need a system which does not hype 100 Hz and the upper mids. | |||
