Vintech 609

Hi. Are there opinions on the Vintech 609 that I could hear? I am considering her for sub group/bus compression on mix. Is this piece very similar to the neve 33609?

I am also considering the pendulum ES-8. Any wisdom on this also?

Thanks alot

About as similar as an X73 is to a Neve 1073... which according to your experience is either "very similar" or "un-fukking-acceptable".

Regardless its intention to sound and look like a Neve, I want to know how does it sound.
By the way, I've heard of the darkness of a real 33609...

I love my ES-8.
More and more everyone has different choices on things.
If your narrowed it down to only these two.
Get them in and keep what you like.

There are also a lot of other's to check out which all do the same thing
Like the 1969, fatso,OCL2, Buzz Audio Comp, Manley Vari MU, Smart C1 or C2, Avalon's, Chandlers Comps, Cranesong STC-8, trackers and more and more

Everyone will like or not like things.
I have the ES-8,1969,fatso,1178 and 2254's
Now which is best. I do not know.. Depends on what needs to be done.

Another super cool one to add to the racks is the Thermionic Culture Phoenix.
Great for drum sub's ..2 buss, tracking ..loving it on vocals, bass, guitars etc..

the Vintech stuff didn't do it for me..
...been there... done[sold] that.

Fletcher- I know you have been busy as of late, but I would like your honest review of the Neve portico when/if you get your hands on it..

Thanks,

Jim

The 609CA is not as dark as the 33609 and I use it often for mastering rock and for drum buss in mixing. Like it very much. Dont miss the Distressors or the Trakkers at all on drum buss (gasp!)

It's no more a lie than the LTD-2 is a lie. Neither one says it's a clone, and both are cool. I'm no Vintech proxy either ... don't care for the X73 pre - but the 473 is great for drums.

Neve is not Rupert's company since what ... 1977? So no need to get all caught up in the authentic 33609 sound saga. If you want the vintage revisions, get one of em. If not, not.

The 609CA Comp is pushed in the higher mids with a thick tranny low end. The Limiter puts out something darker than what you give it, so you have two path tones there.

Here's an A/B of the Comp, as closely level matched as possible ... CD -> DAC1 -> 609CA (or not) -> AD @ 24/44.1 -> mp3

If someone has a dark sounding 33609 it probably needs to be recapped.

The 33609 when its in shape its lean and quick(check otu the new JD version).

In comparison to a 2254 in good shape which can have a more solid tone.
