High end line mixer/preamplifier

Hi,
I'll post this here, in the high end forum, I think it belongs here.
My situation is this: I need 6-8 channel high quality line preamplifier, or mixed with direct out on each channel, but it has to be HIGH quality. I'll be using it to track my sound modules thru it. Right now I use my API's 512 line input and I'm statisfied with the sound , but they are going to stay in my main room, and I'd like to create a composer's room separate. Out there are realy only few chooses: ATI is one and also I was looking to get an ABP rack mixer. They are kind of pricey. I think designers are going to have a lots of space to design one. In 1-2 rack spaces, and keep it under 2K.
Any other sugestions? I'd like to get something under $2000..

I know, there is no one right now on the market, but I think it is doable!
