16 channel Pro Tools LE hybrid mix setup.

This is what i am thinking as my DAW and console:

*iMac (new) running Pro Tools 8 LE
*Digi 003 w/ BLA mod
*apogee ensemble
*Toft ATB 16

What i assume would make sense is to mix in the box down to 16 channels. Send the stems through the console...where i would then mix the stems in the analog domain.....then i would send through a mix buss back to Pro Tools.

does anyone see any major issues i would have with using this method?

i know about delay compensation...i can deal with that....

if i had the cash, i would buy an HD rig and mix all OTB on a 32ch. console. But that isn't reality.

I can afford the gear above. and then start adding more outboard.

i only know pro tools and i know it well, so i don't really want to change DAW's. Plus, the studio i work at has an HD rig, and i just love pro tools 8 HD.

anyhoo....any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated before i drop the cash.

cheers.

no that works nice kind of what we do at work with an SSL and run automation and your fav plugs in protools but still have the console.

Thats kinda the way I did it before I got my HD rig... so it works. But rather than saving for more outboard gear, get yourself a nice 1/4 two track tape machine and send your two mix to that. You will like the analog mojo and it will free up two more tracks.

For the delay compensation, check out ATA from mellowmuse. Really great product!

I have almost exacly that setup and it works great. Shure I sometime dream about a HD system, but it's gonna be sooooo expensive, it's just not the system, its olso a new console, more cables, more patch... And less mony too spend on mics, pre's, compressors etc...GO with LE!

I do exactly that, no longer with the Toft, but when I had one, it worked great!
