current 1176-2 vs. 1176 mono sound?

I have the currently produced, 1176-2 and, am wondering if it sounds different than the currently produced, 1176 mono unit. has anyone compared the two current produced models? -klauth.

Never heard the 2-1176 but it does have different input tranny's and also lacks the bridge-t attenuator that the 1176 has, maybe other differences as well. The 2-1176 isn't just an 1176 x2.

The 2-1176 is the comp section of the 6176, x2 (UA even says so). Note that UA specifically says of the 6176; "The 1176 side maintains all the same features found on the Classic 1176LN" ---there are tons of compressors that have the same features as the 1176, LOL.

That being said, the 2-1176 could be a great comp, but ironically I would never use a pair of 1176's on a mix buss, so I don't quite get the 2-1176 pairing idea.

I have not found a solid answer. But, UA product support usually answers email fairly quick. I've even asked them some complex questions and always got an answer.

They've been evasive before (i.e., regarding the period they redesigned the 1176 w/o the bridge-t attenuator).

It's not easy for a company to talk one of their products down.

Anyway, this is from UA's website>

The 2-1176 builds from the circuit design of UA's hugely successful 6176 Channel Strip and combines two 1176 channels from that unit-
Note they plainly didn't say it was 2x 1176's in 1 box.

The reason I ask is, there's quite a bit of price difference per channel so, that makes me think that... something must be different.... right?

They don't sound the same. 2-1176 doesn't pump the same way.

It is stil a damn good compressor thumbsup

As for why 2 channels? There is more to stereo than the 2-bus.
Drum Room mikes is a pretty widespread use i would guess.
There are still some of us that do track more than 1 instrument at the time

this has been discussed before:

UA 2-1176 sounds WAY different than UA 1176

the impedance switch on the back makes a huge difference. it is a great sounding box.
