ITB or OTB

Another simple state of the world poll :

ITB (In The Box) or OTB (Out The Box)

nothing more nothing less .... not interested in summing boxes versus consoles versus this or that.

I would just like a simple overview of mixing ITB versus OTB. No why or this is better or blah blah. There's enough summing threads out here to defend one or the other and to explain why you prefer this or that. So please keep it VERY simple. Any discussion attempt to defend one or the other will be deleted. So I'd rather see no comments at all then have this turn in to yet another 'summing thread'

If you combine things, vote for the one you use most or prefer.

Thanks.

Is mixing digital considered ITB?

I'm mixing from my Nuendo system on a Yamaha DM1000.

Greetings,
Dirk

Still ITB while my boss does OTB mixing. He keeps trying to get me in that room, but I have more fun trying to beat his mixes using plugins .

The answer is application dependant. Both can be useful.

I'm primarily ITB, but go hybrid on some stuff.

IMO there should be a hybrid option

Mostly ITB, but have started with some OTB summing. So I'm a hybrid but voted for what I mostly do which is ITB.

Nice to see that OTB is running so closely behind ITB.

I second the hybrid option. I mostly use outboard compressors and reverbs, but plug-in EQ's. Sometime the compressors are inserted and sometimes they go directly to a summing box.

ITB, all the way, and here to stay.

I've got outboard gear, but it only gets used for tracking.

Once the audio's in PT, it's all plugins and ITB mixing.

ITB hybrid, lots of outboard comp and eq's

....but just because it's rare to get the budget for a good console to use

At home, hybrid w ITB buss and combination of plug-ins and out board.
Away, if they've got a decent console then hybrid with OTB buss (console) and a combination of plug-ins and outboard.

Same here but analog inserts (like tube echos!) definitely planned with the uprade to PT HD.

ITB although lately I sub group a lot of things strraight to different ouboard compressors and EQ's then back in. So prob 5-6 stereo pairs to LR buss.
Getting my color using outboard in sub groups.
