What are we recording to these days ?

Out of pure curiousity ... what are we recording to these days ?

I mean RECORDING. I'm not talking about mixing ... maybe that 's for another time. I want to know what you record to. Nothing more - nothing less.

Keep comments restricted to the recording medium please. Relevant or not, I don't want this thread to turn into a discussion about mixing or summing or analog boards versus digital boards versus whatever so .... :

Simple question .... simple answers :

What are we recording to these days ... or rather primarely recording to .... for those who like myself ... have options. What do you use most ?

Pro Tools HD with Digi 192. I was recording at 44.1khz. Next project will be at least 96K if not 192K.

nuendo and depending on the sort of material, in 44.1, or 88.2. i would like to go higher, but my soundcard doesn t support this, and in the end, the clients wouldn t pay that, anyway.

SLAM! and Masterlink, live to 2.

There's always tape if it comes to overdubs.

Logic via Motu HD192's.

I need a Big Ben soon or possibly a nice 2 channel box with a killer clock.

Really need a "both analog and hard disk" option.

I never track basic tracks for rock recordings to anything but tape anymore. Overdubs are all digital, tho.

most projects I cut to 2" I use the daw for fixes and put it back on 2". It's still the best storage medium for me. Sometimes I'll cut to Logic via Motu 1296.
One discouraging thing I just discovered since Quantegy is back online they raised the reel price $30.00

If client has some $$, then big PT HD.
If some $ available, then 48 tracks of Mackie HDR at 24/96 bit then converted to PT session.
If even less $ available, then into Apogee converter direct to Masterlink at 24/96.

Analog...ah, analog. I miss it, like I miss a V8 engine and leaded gasoline- none of that "light beer" crap. Worked great at the time, not quite what my clients want now. (I still have 2 and 4 track reels from clients rolling, though). Wish I had reason to keep a 2" Studer aligned.

In the studio it's mostly PT HD2 Accel, BB clock, 192 converters. At 44.1, 24 bit. Still doing some 2" 24track, but fast disappearing.
Remotes Genex 9000 with DA38 backup.
All mixes to Sonic Solutions.

PT/Digi001, audio to OWC Mercury Elite FW, @44.1K.

FWIW: If I can't get that to sound "pro," I blame it on myself, NOT the gear.

Mytek ADC 8x96 into Fairlight Merlin. One of the few who ever bought one of those. It's a great machine, though I am soon to get Sequoia with a Lynx AES 16 to use in conjunction with the Merlin, or for mastering, etc...

Just got the new Antelope Audio Isochrone Master Clock too.

Nuendo via HD192 and 24 i/o

usually 24/44.1

96K if I think the bands worth it.

192K for small accoustic type projects.

2" MTR90 II when its time to ROCK!! 30IPS no NR (even though I have both SR and A)

Digi002R for Pro Tools transfers (to and from)

Track to ProTools on an internal drive, typically at 88.2, but if it were going to an older system at some point, 44.1. I try to avoid 48 and 96 whenever I can.
