Exclamation Santa Monica studio need to book a day or two...

Hello all,

Can anyone recommend a good Santa Monica studio? I need to book a day or two to track a final vocal and mix the song, coming in with a PTHD session.

Ideally this next week.

Would love to use a U47 or 67, Neve, Pacifica or like pre and have enough out board comps, verbs and desk to mixdown a fairly simple acoustic vocal song. Perhaps hit tape.

Would also need someone to comp and tweak and tune vocal edit for final mix, mixing whole song.

Any recommends, including rate?

4th Street Studios used to be good. I haven't been there for years, but I also haven't heard anything negative.

+1 Threshold. They've got a nice old Neve to track and mix on, and plenty of good mics. My friend Michael Perricone works in on of their smaller studios and has a couple of Sinatra era 47s that rock. You should be able to negotiate a good rate in this economic climate at this time of year.

Thanks What is a reasonable day rate, do you think (with engineer)?

For threshold, probably around $1000 to $1200 a day.

Engineer cost depends on who you get. I guess any where from $300 to $800 a day depending on the skill and experience.

Thumbs up

Talked with Sunset Sound about booking Studio 1, but also got some great PM's that may e an even better option. Thanks guys!

Santa Monica was just close and I thought it'd be cool to experiment with something new, but I haven't seen much here. 4th St, of course, but I thought I'd find a hidden gem... still, maybe.

Threshold is great. I spent two weeks there and the 5 minute drive from Venice everyday was so enjoyable.

Sunset Sound is also great. One of my favorite studios. Sound Factory too.
