Thread Starter | Soundelux/Bock 251 and E251c/151 User Issue
Hello All, I recently picked up a used Soundelux E251c. It seems like a pretty great sounding mic, but its also creating a slightly audible sort of "fluttering" sound that isn't coming from any of my other mics/equipment. Any idea what this is? Should I return the mic or ask for a partial refund? It's really just kind of annoying, and I don't like hearing it. Like I said, it's not super loud, but it seems like it shouldn't be there at all. *I take this back... it gets REALLY loud every now and then to the point where it would definitely ruin vocal takes. This from my latest testing through only a preamp and good converter. Back the mic goes... just can't risk getting a new tube to be disappointed if I found out it was something else. The seller understands and agrees. Thank you - Brad |

Sounds like you may need a new tube for it.

Could be a different component, too. Many FET mics exhibit "motorboating" when something goes kaput. Change the tube first, and if that doesn't help, send it to James Gangwer.

| get rid of the tube If you really want to make your mic sound better, get rid of the tube. I mean the Russian tube. Depending on how serious you are, you could go up to a Telefunken EF 806S or if you're willing to do some mods on the mic, an EF 804S. |

Thanks guys. I appreciate all of the advice. I'm returning the microphone. I tracked and sent an audio file to the seller, and he agrees that something is definitely wrong. I don't have the time or money to try and figure out what's wrong with the microphone, nor do I have any interest in looking into expensive modifications for any mic at this point. |
