Thread Starter | weiss DAC MK2 V.S DCS 955 V.S Prism sound ADA -8XR V.S Mytek 8x192 V.S DAD AX24 DAC weiss DAC MK2 V.S DCS 955/954 V.S Prism sound ADA -8XR V.S Mytek 8x192 V.S DAD AX24 DAC Which one is the best in term of sound quality?(As natural as possible) Although I need 2 channel DAC only, I concern more about the quality of the DAC. I would like to use in high end mastering studio for my eng. Some one said the sound of prism sound ADA -8XR DAC not as clear as weiss DAC MK II, prism ADA 8XR DAC more suitable for mix rather than mastering. Is it true? |

| dCS is not made anymore Prism is alright, the best Prism is the AD2 Dream Mytek is fine. I've heard good things from Mytek, especially DSD Weiss, now you're getting close to the holy grail DAD AX24 is the best I've heard. I use them, as well as EMM Labs in my mastering room. I'd also check out the Grimm and Forsell Regards, Bruce |

For 24/96 PCM, the best is the Pacific Microsonics, followed by the Lavry Gold and Weiss. The dCS and Prism didn't do it for me. Regards, Bruce | |

Thread Starter | Some eng. tell me that the sound quality of prism sound DA2 better than ADA-8XR although the spec. is not as good as ADA8XR ? Is it true? Anyone know why prism sound DAC more expensive than competitor (e.g. EMM Labs , DAD AX24 , DCS 955 and weiss DAC)? |

| I love my Prism ADA8XR, when you get to the level of the converters you are talking about, it eventually comes down to personal preference. I demo-ed a bunch of converters when I bought the Prism. Loved the DAD as well but found a deal on the prism and it works great with Protools too. I am pretty sure the AD2 and DA2 are better sounding than the 8xr but alot more money.... and less flexiblitly, I use my 8xr for tracking, mixing inserts and mix bus/mastering analog return, it does it all with fantastic results. Bottom line; try them out before you buy.
