Airline Proof Racks!!!

I have 12 units high worth of outboard that I need to take with me overseas at the end of this year. I need something that I can lock and will allow my gear to get there unscathed. I'm in Brisbane Australia, so some of the more esoteric american and euro brands aren;t really an option here, Any Ideas? I'm a bit skeptical of just whacking it all in a couple of SKBs.
Also what about insurance? Do i need special insurance for 12k worth of goodies?

Never done the OS thing before, any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

H.

Do a search on GS - Fletcher mentioned a company that he trusts to build cases that can survive.

www.casestogo.com They sell Anval and military cases which are about as tough as they get. I'm not sure if they sell direct because I'm setup as a dealer for them. Just give them a shout and ask for Jeri - Tell her that David Webster sent you over.

Future Case http://futurecase.com is the only case company we trust with our stuff [R&R cases are pretty damn good too... but Future Case is closer to us geographically].

Don't skimp out on road cases if you really care about your gear. The reason we only use Future case is because I have cases that have been with the company for more than 15 years with several hundred thousand miles on them that are in absolutely workable condition. We send stuff out with tours all the time, there has never been a problem with any of the stuff we've gotten from Future Case.

Both of my workboxes were made by Future Case... the older of the two has been to 3 continents, innumerable states, trade shows galore and works like a charm. I can not possibly recommend this company highly enough!!!

If you have a chance to get to AES in Barcelona this year, our latest acquisition will be making it's maiden voyage... a 16 RU case with heavy duty casters, 8 handles, removable rack insert... it houses the "Mercenary Editions" demo system which as I'm sure you can guess is pretty damn important to us to keep in one piece.

Best of luck with your search.

Ok Hammer...
Im in Sydney myself and have done the OS thing a LOT!!!!
there are some great case makers in Australia. Forget getting them from overseas! the shipping alone will cost nearly as much as an extra case.

I recomend taking 2 x 6 unit cases if you HAVE to take that much stuff.
6RU will just get through all the luggae stuff without having to put it through as special luggage. it all depends on the airport. Id even seriously consider having 3 x 4RU cases... if you have a team going with you... it means you can palm off a case to each member flying.
But even alone... 2 cases is a LOT easier to manage and the airlines will be much friendlier to you than with a 12RU!!!!
Also... where are you flying? cos if you are going through USA.. they will open the case... and if that involves breaking the lock.. so be it... so you are best to look into cases that can be locked with the special locks that airline security have all purpose keys for. ,... rather than the normal lockable catches.

You will definately want floating racks. Do NOT use skb or similar... or non floating (shockmount) racks. you WILL regret it! i learned the hardway!
here are some companies and some ideas for racks... talk to them.. they know what they are doing!

Caseman in Victoria

Blue Cat - in Qld... some serious cases

Nova Forge Cases - well respected and have been around for a while...

There was a company on the Gold Coast called Cadillac Cases... they built some for me a few years back.. but we cant seem to track them down.. they were really good.

Also Lots of Watts in sydney make great cases... also have done some for me and Blueberry Ash are also well made cases.

hope this helps mate.
feel free to send me an email... i can send you some pics of some of my cases...
Some of the things i have cased are: Hammond C3, Wurly200, Rhodes, Touring Rack, Small Touring rack, etc etc ...
