I wired My Studio, although anybody who has an ADK Custom Mic post 2010
has Accusound in their mic (OFC or Silver-Pro depending on the model).
My years playing guitar have been mostly not professional, just as my years of
recording have been mostly not mainstream. Hues by Sam Rivers, Jr. is the only
major label credit I can claim. I've done a number of projects, such as private
recordings of Vladimir Horowitz Concert Steinway. Phil Goldberg Quintet is the
most recent release that I engineered. My guitar or piano playing has not made
any major CD releases. I expect the Frisco-Man CD to showcase my guitar work.
Most folks who know me personally think of me as a Piano Player, not a Guitarist.
I would rather folks focus on the Grammy Winning CD's that ADK has tracked,
and not my meager body of work on either side of the glass. I am an amateur,
mostly, as a musician. I had a Home Studio in the 70's before anyone called
them that, and did mostly music beds for 60 second commercials on my old
acoustic guitar and ARP 2600 tracked on a Tandberg Half-Track Tape Recorder.
Again - I wish I had some of these tracks to share.
I would rather be known for the body of work that ADK Microphones tracked,
and not the humble recordings that I have made in the past. As stated earlier,
I use a Pro Engineer if I want to track something important, and I no longer
trust my 62 year old ears to make mic-beta or post-production decisions!!!

I have been an ADK user for quite a while, and follow your comments in these forums with interest. I got the impression you were professional because in most of your posts you say you've been "tracking jazz for the better part of 40 years" or "playing guitar for 50 years". And you have an impressive mic and guitar collection as I know from talking to you personally. Also you always say "We tracked, or ADK tracked grammy award winning artists" but I see you were just talking about the fact that someone uses your mics on some of these projects. And you always have quite a bit to say on your personal microphone usage and recording. I just assumed you were a guitar player and recorded based on what you say. But that's cool. I was really just interested in hearing what you had recorded as founder of ADK. Then you just say here that you no longer trust your ears when it comes to decisions concerning mics and production. Just seems contrary I guess, maybe a bit disappointing, I figured you'd have some great stuff to show off some of your new mics! I haven't done any major label things either, but I have tons of audio examples. Just thought I could get some examples straight from the horses mouth as it were! Guess I'll have to wait till the Frisco Man CD comes out. Keep on rockin! -Multi

I'm no expert, but I don't hear much difference in cable. However, I would recommend a decent brand - REDCO would be my first choice - fair price and acceptable quality - Nuetrik seems like the standard.... good quality connects a must ... GOOD LUCK ! |

I use mostly what I build myself. I've been dissatisfied with many commercial cables I've had in the past, or modified (owned by somebody else). Many cables, even the expensive ones, lack critical stress-relief and/or have bad soldering. The cheaper ones have s***ty connectors, usually.
I use mostly Eurocable (super easy to work), Mogami and Cordial cables and Neutrik connectors. Everything (ground wire, all solder contacts and the whole pair) gets heatshrinked, because I worry about durability a lot.
I use mostly yellow cable nowadays, so cables leaving the studio (some people are...) are easier to spot.

| Just curious Larry, how did you "track" multiple instruments on your Tandberg 1/2 track? What was the process?
A Home Studio before anyone called them that? So, just what did they call their studios at home in the 70's? : )
Thanks- Multi

You can buy a whole roll of Mogami cable and Neutrik connectors online and make your own cables and save tons on money! Just my thoughts.
