MPC2000XL Problem

I've been having a problem with my MPC. A lot of times while I'm working on a beat while programming or shaping my samples, the MPC crashes and I get an error message. Then it goes to a screen with numbers I do not understand. Has anyone has this problem? Is it electronical? Has anyone had this problem fixed? I've been reluctant to send it in for repairs because I'll lose the central part of my beat making process for awhile, but it looks like i have no choice now cause I'm losing all my ideas when the machine crashes.

I've had the same experiences several times (rarely, but several) and I almost cryed because of the material I had put together on the damn thing. I mean, at least 8 hours worth of work, of beautiful work. All I could do is scream out , Oh MY GOD, NO! NO, NO, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!

Man, when you go through something like that, it almost feels like someone died in the family. LITERALLY. Maybe, that's just me.

Anyway, umm, I've never taken it in for a check up, so best of luck with that. Only thing I can tell you is to save and save often. You put together somethin pretty drastic, save it. Hell, even if you have a bad feeling that it's gonna crash, getta savin.

Oh yeah, I kinda noticed that when I was pressing pads during parts of a sequence that was "midi note heavy", you know, when a lot is going on at once, it would crash, not every time, but it's done it several times under those circumstances. So be on the lookout for that.

Hope that helped.

Hey, I feel your pain, brotha.

to my experience, akais can **** up with either:
a- bad external hard drive connections / cables / disks
b- sometimes theres midi feedback going on between the akai and the computer which for some reasons can be 'dormant' for a while and then crash it.

I ve had a bit of both with either old s-series or mpc's.
hope thats of help.

* wow, thats funny i got sensored for typing 'ferck up' above. but it doesnt work with this spelling.

I've upgraded the ram and I'm maxed out. I've even changed the sticks a few times and that helped for awhile. I've also upgraded the OS. No help. I've put in a zip drive recently, but I don't beleive thats the problem, because it was actually happenning more often when I had the floppy drive in. I understand the save often theory, but sometimes, it's still frustrating to have spent so much money on a piece of unreliable gear that is the main tool.

I wasn't talking to you. No need to be sarcastic. I haven't had any sort of problems with my mpc like the ones mentioned.

Outside of O/S and/or Ram upgrades I would have to say Forat or some equivalent place to look at it...

Hey man, I wasn't being sarcastic. I truly wanted to know how you got that info or did you do some experimenting?

And anyway, being on this forum, you are never directly talking to just one person. So ice that shit. dfegad

a computer tech upgraded my RAM some 10 years ago in my computer and noticed less crashes. That's the theory behind my rocket science assumption that his MPC may need more RAM. better ?

Actually, there's a bug in the 2000XL. This is a known issue. I don't know how to recreate it, but it's there alright. Let's hope for a new OS that fixes it!!
