Anyone Using the RME Fireface & Dangerous D-Box?

By chance - anyone using the FF800 and a D-Box?

I'm not familiar with this device and can't find a lot of info on how others are using it...so I'm curious how this would work? Do I get a 1/4" to DB25 snake with 8 outs and come in from my FF800's line outs into the D-Box? I guess I could use AES/SPDIF as well...

I'm assuming then I could use the 'sum output' to bring that through a stereo comp or other outboard EQ/comp and then back into my DAW?

Currently, I'm using a $99 POS headphone amp. So, I'd be using this to run my headphone mixes + my analog connection to my JBL 4326's.

Any practical configuration ideas would be appreciated. I don't use a mixing console, so not sure if this thing is just plain overkill for me...

Choinga,

Correct on all accounts.

I am not sure about the Fireface's capabilities, but if you can use the SPDIF at the same time as all 8 line outs, then you can set the system up to do the following:

8 line outs to Summing inputs

Summing output to 2-Buss comp

Back into your DAW

Then route that tracks output to the SPDIF

this way you could switch between SUM and DAW on the D-Box and listen pre and post the 2-Buss comp.

So would the D box be considered overkill for a setup like his? I have a similar setup, and am somewhat considering the D Box. Maybe I should put my money into something else first?

I use an API A2D
Mbox 2 pro
DBX 160A
Jbl 4326's

Any thoughts?

sorry to hi jack the thread. What is so unique about the circuitry in the D-box? is there a bunch of transformers in there like a big console? I just wonder if the same kind of analog saturation can be done with a smaller end analog board. Like a Mackie Onyx, SOundcraft, Allen&Heath? These boards generally sound decent and it would make more sense to me to use a smaller 16ch board with insert points, eq, and FX return channels than a glorified line mixer.......

Am I talking crazy...... Has anyone looked inside the D-box? whats in there?

Dave
