Innertube MAG MIC

Hey,

I got an Innertube Mag Mic on loan... First impression: This baby is sweet! I have only used it on male and female vocals so far, but drums are coming soon... later this week... I will give a more detailed report... I will test it against any other mics in its price range at the studio. It looks cooler then I expected it to, and the sound is impressing me a lot so far....

If I can make a suggestion

For your drum test, one of the positions to try is just behind floor tom, looking down & across at kit, about 6' up
Depending on room size, and if you're setup is near a corner, that can yield interesting results

And try running the mic output straight into your recorder/A-D, no mic pre

Have fun!

i have a C12VR (easy i am sensitive) that Innertube modded to basically a MagMic .... this thing sounds awsome on everything ... huge sound ... be careful though too many tracks with this and your going to have things fighting for space ...

They`ve got that tube gut replacement kit for the U87 that looks pretty bitchen as well.

Anybody know how much that one costs.

It`d be cool to score a cheap broken U87 off ebay for use with the kit.

as long as the capsule isn't broken, then ya. if the cap is hooped, then it's useless even with the mod

I'm gonna ressurect this old thread instead of starting another one....

Got a Mag Mic MM-2000 this week...

All I can say is WOW!!!!!! Un-friggin-believable!!!

Cracks me up to hear people dissing it's looks... Cuz guess what... Forget about it's looks - It SOUNDS amazing! What I am hearing back in the headphones and in the recording is unreal. I had to call Stayne today and thank him for an amazing creation. To get a mic this good in this price range is remarkable. In my opinion, soundwise, this thing is in the league of mics that cost twice as much and higher. I'm sold on the Mag Mic.... Definitely not a gimmic... This thing is for real!!!!

well, i have a pair of the U87 mod kits and, while i love their tone, i am unhappy with the noise floor of the PSU, which is the same one used for the Mag Mic, as far as i know.

any opinions on this?

I have one, love it. For me it's the perfect balance between having enough character but still working very well on everything.
