I love mine, very smooth sound - I´ll use it for pop/rock vocals.

I love this mic. For me, it has been a vocal go-to mic for male rock vocals. I like it on my own voice, which is pretty thin and focused. It is excellent on upright bass too. Just bought one this week.

What's your vocal recording chain with this?

Nice to have some feedback guys,I use my Geffel with an amek 9098 pre/eq+UREI LA3A but on some male vocals it's a bit edgy around 1,5/2 k and I have to pull back these frequencies usually popups very well in the mix sometimes I'd wish a rounder sound like u67,which preamps do you use?

Best regards

I demoed one for a while and was blown away. I had a Korby on order and ultimately went with that, but the Geffel really surprised me. thumbsup

I just got one too. Well sort of, it is still at the music shop, but I will have it soon. First order is to immediately put a better tube in it. I love all my Gefell mics thus far so this thing should be awesome. It is my first expensive vocal mic so I am pumped. There has been one or two popping up used lately for really good prices, on the sluts classifieds.

Here is a tune where the vocal was cut using my UM 92.1 with an Altec 436C compressor doing some very light compression, if it helps. I love this mic. The thread to the tune and all of the details is here.

I have screwed around with tubes in my guitar amps for years and nos always sounds a lot better. That is actually the first thing I do when I get something with tubes in it. I change them immediately and keep the ones I take out as spares just in case.

What is a reasonable price for the NOS tube and where should I start looking?

I have this mic in my arsenal among many classics and i have to say it is a star! also the guys at gefell are very nice and extremely pros.
use it often on vocs but it doesn't do one size fit all, if the voc is small and mid rangy i find it sounds too small through the um92.1s but this mic enhance voc talents with rich voice and also sounds great on acoustic things like strings etc..

Also look at Klaus Heyne PSW forum, Oliver Archut posted an easy mod - actualy it is about disconnecting some part of the filtering/RFI shielding circuit (if I remember correctly). There are also examples of unmodified and modified mic.
