Actual Urei La4 or DBX 160?

Trying to decide. I'm going with originals in either case.

If you HAD to choose between the two, which one would be YOUR choice?

Uh, 1176 or LA3A. Or a bunch of others...

Both the 160 and LA4 can be cool on SOME sources, but either of the alternatives (I mentioned, above) will be more useful on MOST sources. OR not...

YMMV

PS- (If I hadda choose:160)

Hmm

I never really felt the love with the DBX

but then again, a stock LA4 never got me flushed either, unless I'm post Eq'ng either of 'em:

I'd get an LA4 and immediately have it modd'ed.

kinda' hard to direct compare, given the differnt vca designs...

I love 160s...especially on kick or snare. Just a touch works wonders.

Can be cool on bass also, though there aare better options.

Just a note...there are aa lot of 161s around. Essentially the same thing, plus 4 but unbalanced. Still very usable depending on what is around it. I have two that have worked next to other 160's, a manley Mu and come other cool stuff for 12 years faithfully...and I just bought a mint one for 50 bucks.

Tough to argue with that.
