Brauner Valvet Shockmount problems

I've had a Brauner Valvet for about two years. I just replaced the rubber O rings on the shock mount for the fourth time due to their cracking and snapping. Has anyone found a a better source for these than their local hardware store? I'm thinking some kind of ozone-resistant rubber or silicone would work better, but I dunno. Any suggestions?

Contact the guys at Transaudio. They are the distributors. I know Brad there has helped out guys with Soundelux issues and I am sure he will take care of you. They stand behind the product they rep. Maybe there is a newer kind of rubber they are using or just the same old stuff? Rubber O-rings are cheap, but I can sympathise with the hassle.

So I take it you have a Sonic Ionizer thingie? The air cleaner that detroys rubber?

If you can enclose the rubber/elastic in cloth, that works better. You see some shock mount cords are enclosed in cloth, like the Brauner VM Series and the Soundelux', Neumann's, etc.

Unfortunately the rubber rings that Brauner uses on this shock mount can't be sealed up in cloth and maintain the right diameter. So I'm afraid that we are stuck with rubber.

Get a better (non ozone generator) air cleaner and your problems will stop.

I had the same problem with a Valvet. The rings started breaking after one year. I replaced them with rings from the hardware store, too. And I have no air cleaner in the studio.

I forgot about one detail-sorry. There was one run of rings that were bad about 2 years ago. Dirk replaced them all to me. After that, everything was fine. But I have had lots of problems with Ozone. SO if you ened new rigns, let me know I will send them to you.

Sorry for not remembering that!

Does anyone actually take the mic out of its mount, or do the rings just disintegrate by themselves? I have 2 valvets and 3 phantomV (I want 2 more phantoms) and I never remove them from their mounts, just curious

I work in the bottling industry, and bottle water is processed with ozone. We use o-rings in the chucks that pick up bottle caps and ozone will eat those thing up, UNLESS you use EPDM/EPR. Even exposure to air will cause nitrile o-rings (the most common) to degrade.

EPDM/EPR O-rings are readily available at www.mcmaster.com. They stock a wide range of o-rings in an array of materials. You may have to buy 10 or 25 depending on the size, but it still won't cost you much. Be prepared to take some careful measurements of your o-rings so you can determine what size to order.

Thanks! That was exactly the information I was looking for. I don't use any kind of ozone based purifier. The air alone seems to degrade the hardware store/plumbing supply rubber all by itself.

I'll check out McMaster.

I wrote Brauner, who after replacing the rings (had to send it in), gave me 10-20 rings. I replace Them myself now. A bit annoying, though
