Genelec 8050A

went in for a AWS900 demo today and they had 8050As there (also 1031As). i brought a session i've been working on with BM15As w/Sub. i was surprised at the low end on those things with NO sub - specs say they go down to 35Hz. they're loud enough also (specs say 120dB@1m) - when i A/Bd to the 1031As, the latter sounded shrill/no low end - 'normal' for me as far as Genelecs go - so, who like these? are they believable? anyone on these vs. Adam S3As? what i was doing in my room on the BM15As WITH sub, translated pretty dang well to these guys! they're pretty small too.

I just got a pair, I also have 1030s that I don't find shrill at all, my only complaint is that they're too sturdy, meaning that I can add tons of whatever freq and they won't break up, which is why I mix 90% on a boombox with cd input. The 1030s have a 6" woofer and a 3/4" tweeter which might be sweeter.
When I compare the 2 side by side my impression is that the 1030 sound a little more hifi and the 8050s more revealing full ranged and definitely louder, which is why I got them. Since I've yet to mix on them and haven't set them in the right place in the room etc... I can't go any further than that except that I'm happy that they're loud and have an extended lo end. I can track bass and gtr in the CR

Love the 8050's here

They have the perfect vibe for my needs, they are plenty loud and have a great bass end. Mixes translate very nicely thumbsup

thumbsup for 8050A. Great nearfield speakers. My experience with them is that they really do sound a lot "bigger" than what they look. Especially when compared to 10-series. It seems that 8050A needs a quite good acoustics around them to make them sound right....well that's with any good speakers anyway.

I've noticed that I can mix quite a lot faster with 8050 than with 1032 or 31, I don't know why

However there are two things I'm not quite pleased with them. 1.Sub freq's sound always a bit compressed to me, so fine tuning bass drum level is sometimes a bit pain to get it exactly right. 2.Althought transient response is very accurate it feels like the speakers get a little compressed at higher levels...or is it my ears?

I`m working on a project right now and I`m using the 8040`s. They are really pleasant to work with and they make your ears happy. You can sit a long time without getting tired, but... Today when I got home I realized they don`t translate very well. On my own system (Yamaha NS10M with Bryston amp) it was way too little bass and so on. Of course it`s all about knowing your system...

Hope it helps...

I think I like the 8230`s better...

I have 8050 and S3A.

The S3A translates alot better. I use the 8050 to find out if my mixes has enough balls.

When I mix I ofthen start with the 8050 and finish with the S3A.
