| Ah man I can't help you with the manual but maybe you can help me. Tell me, in detail, what you think of the 737 and what are you applying it to? I hear a lot about it. I have a Avalon 2022 and it's great. How is the compressor on that unit? |

| The compressor is not as great as the greats but the preamp and eq are still used as much as our API's and Great River's. Jason

| Avalon I agree, the compressor really sucks but the Eq and pre work nice with a Blueberry Mic that I have. |

If you don't get the manual from James, give Avalon a call. Their customer service is great in my experience.

I have a 737 too. You're right, at first I thought the compressor was damaged (or my ears). There is no point in using it, is too slow. However I like the pre and the EQ (I don't care how many times I've seen gearslutz pissing on it). I very clean, and clean is good. But, please tell me about the Blueberry. What do you use it on? Is it worth the money? With what do you compare it? ps. I keep wondering, what is a compressor that doesn't compress doing in a $2000 box? Insomnio

| I thought it was just me thinking that i couldn't work the comp too good, but I see that a lot of people find that the comp sucks too. I do find that the pre is pretty solid. Any suggestions on a good comp to compliment this unit? |

| Avalon 737 I use it mostly on vocals.I think these two work well together. It is hard to compare because I had a AT 4050 before a Rode NTK and A groove Tubes GT67, not exactly high end.Of all these the GT 67 was a horrible mic for me.I also use it on Acoustic guitar. For vocals, it sits so well in the mix compared to other vocals.I might be unloading it soon for a Soundelux U195 though.I hear these are great mics.Anyone use the U195 with the Avalon 737? |

As for another compressor, I've used Millenia's TCL-2 with an Avalon AD2022. The TCL-2 is photo cell based, so perhaps that too is too slow?

| You know, I've been compressor researching and at first I wanted the Avalon 2044 because I liked their pre, the 2022. But, one, I never really hear feedback about the unit. Hell, I have a thread going on right now about it and only one person replied. Two, when I do get feedback about any of Avalon's compressors, whether it be the 737, 747, or the 2044, people say the EXACT same thing. "The damn thing works too slow." So when you hear it that much, you tend to shy away from units that gets consistantly, bad feedback. Can anyone say anything good about the 747 or the 2044, because I'm looking for a compressor only, not a strip. Keep hearing a lot about those damn, Distressors. Might have to pick up one in dual channel. |

| Is there anything that you WOULD compress with the 737?

| Ok I am really tired of people stating things like this. How does a optic compressor suck on the 737? Optic compressors are the best on things like vocals and acoustic guitar. This one is transparent and adds a little touch of flavor when you hit it harder. Don't tell me the attack is too slow. Your not suppose to have such a fast attack for vocals and acoustic guitar. You want the signal to breathe. Plus they upgraded the attack time on the newer units as well. |

I've never found a problem with the comp on vocals and never even have it set to its fastest setting

| Get yourself a API 2500 or a Smart C1 if you want real compression, not only the attack is to slow on the 2044, it has a un~wanted mid low boost that I hate the most. O I forgot to mention the stuff is way overpriced, I will say the 2044 is quiet as a mouse, understand the AD series such as your 2022, a 2044, 2055... the design came from a company named krell audiophile (google it and look at the price...http://www.krellonline.com/), VT series such as 737, 747 is pure Avalon noise. Happy Trails BIG 3..... Quote:
