tube pre with tube mic or not

Hello,
I have Avalon 737sp and akg414EB and Nady 1150 tube mic,and I want to buy some expencive microfon(brauner valvet vocal or manly reference cardiodid),but I heard that is better have non tube mic with tube pre and vice versa,so I wonder IS IT TRUE,then i rather buy brauner fantom C or neumann U87.

Thanks in advance

I personally prefer less tube than that in the chain, however it's totally a matter of taste. If you like the sound, then do it.

O/T Jakob: your stuff looks really, really nice! I often mosey over to your website just to oggle the gear.

You can really go either way, drzox. Choosing the right mic is more important than what kind of pre you're using with it.

One day I realized that almost everything I had come
to believe about tubes in audio equipment had actually
come from advertisements for low end gear and had very
little to do with anything real.

Tubes can be very clean.
Descrete can be very fat.
What does warm mean?

that's bullshit. listen and if you like the sound then get it.

good tube gear don't sound apparently like tube. they just sound good.

It would mean every Beatles record upnuntil Abbey Road was recorded "wrong".

I'm not much of an Avalon fan, but it's got nothing to do with it being 'tube' or not.

Think in terms of GOOD mic pres that you like. Not in terms of design characteristics OR of variety.
