Good luck in your search. It's pretty hard to find people who are prepared to part with a Sontec. Trust me I've tried. There is no dealer and the only way you may find one is on E-Bay or some second hand dealer. Be warned..... Sontecs are quite unreliable and the op amps which seem to go are virtually impossible to source.

There is / was this guy called Burgess who is / was the Sontec contact. I say was because he's virtually vanished. No-one has heard hide or hair of him and no-one has any idea how to get a hold of him despiute many many attempts to do so by concerned Sontec owners.

You'll also need around $12K USD if not more. Sure they are a great eq, but for that kind of money you can get 2 or maybe 3 boxes and be able to do a whole lot more.

Cheers,

Hi !

morphon, studiotechnik (www.morphon.de) did the distribution in germany,
until the owner of Sontec dropped the face of the world.

Pretty hard to find one used, as the owners, just use them in their rooms.

We have 3 MES430C9 in our mastering rooms, and they are workhorses we
never sell.

Last I spoke with him, he hadn't found any HS1000s, so if he is fixing them he's not using Sontec opamps.

I'm working on having someone copy the old design and create new ones, but time isn't very easy to come by lately...

A friend's studio had theirs go down and the sent it to Chris. It sounded like he is gonna reverse engineer the HS-1000. That's last I heard. I think they sent it down in Dec. I'll try to get an update and report back....

bad news. The unit went to someone else for repair. The bad amp cards were replaced with something different.

A bunch of mastering engineers with Sontecs should pool some funds and pay for someone like Chris Muth to RE the card and make a couple hundred. Everyone would probably sleep easier knowing there were spare amp cards in the cubboard if the unit stops working....

If there are serious results, I would spend one HS1000 amp card for
reverse designing.

Try asking these questions at this place.
There are a couple of people there building a sontec clone and they might be interested.
Also, I did a search for "Sontec " and this are the results.
