Don't have much experience with newer Summit so I can't comment, I hear really great things though...

For the mono $1500 range look into the Great River EQ-1NV and the Buzz Audio MPE 1.1 (can be had for less depending on transformer configuration) both are A+ sonics and very flexible IMO. There is also the new Lil Freq from Empirical Labs which is on the higher side of your budget, I haven't had a chance to test it yet though.

Really mellow acoustic music. I'm looking for that upfront vocal. My vocal mic is a Soundelux e49. I'm just trying to add some air at the top and gain a few pounds!!

I thought about the lil freq. I'll probably wait a few months to let the community have it, but I need an eq pretty quick. What do you think of the Summits.

Boboji, have you tried the Langevin DVC? Nice air eq, great vocal box.

The Summit EQP-200 is not a bad EQ for mixing vocals.

Its one of the things it does best.

You will still probably need another EQ to finish it off(polishing and for air freq's).

hi,
I own the ANT eqs they are great but not really warming your audio like maybe the summit or other tube eq.
they have 3 q settings a lot of freq choice and give +-12db (i think, i'm not at the studio right know...), it is 3 band EQ with NO shelfs, the high and low band act like a shelf in extreme settings (something like under 100hz and over 10khz with more than +-6db with the widest q setting).
I love the especially on wall of sound guitar buss to add a bit balls and crunch and remove muddiness.
hope it helps.

Thanks all for the opinions. Warhead for pre's I'm using a DW Fearn amd a John Hardy M1 so I'm reluctant to invest in another pre. That's why I'm looking just for an eq. I'm leaning towards a single channel of the Great River.

The Buzz units look totally cool, but there is not much info (reviews ect.) yet. Nathan, have you tortured the MPE 1.1 yet? I would be very curious as to what you think of them. I have been eyeing them since they came out.

Another contender slightly under the vogue-du-jour-radar for this dog-pile is the Focusrite Red 2.

Used ones can be found for decent $ on ebay these days.. Has Sowter (IIRC) input and output transformers, and even if you only use the high shelf and the low-mid band (my favorites), it's pretty sweet.

Another vote here for the Summit EQP-200. We used it lots on one project for vocals... very smooth... works great. I'm not sure if there's a better value for the money!

I've put it through the ringer all right. I've used it on an R&B & Hip Hop mix, Metal/Indie tracking & mix, Pop mix, & a Latin mix (man, I've been doing a lot of mixing lately!!). It's a very clean but very musical sounding EQ (the transformer option adds some midrange softness) with a lot of headroom. It compares easily right up there with my Ibis, Millennias, & Great River EQ's. It stays suprisingly sweet even at full gain boost. I'd like to try this in a live bass rig too, I bet the low end will be what the doctor ordered.

There's a couple versions of the EQP-200 out there, the older ones seem to be better then the newer ones. More musical, not as hard and crunchy and the boost does something before you wind it up to noon. I got mine used, not sure I'd spend that kind of dough on a new one, I'd rather have an Ibis or EQ2NV. YMMV.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...
