About Lexicon 200. Im thinking of buying one, and I´m very curious of your opinion! What would you say is the difference between the 200 compared to other more common & popular rev units like the 480L, 2016 etc. Is it comparable at all? When would you reach for the 200 if you had it sit in your rack? I´ve seen it in Tony Maseratis outboard rack so I figure its a good unit. Anders |

I'm just about to send mine off to Jim Fabiano for an overhaul. They're cool units. I've not used a 480, but I can compare to to a 224. It's not quite as spacious as a 224, but it's still a gorgeous-sounding Lexicon unit. It certainly is MUCH easier to program than a 224. I don't neccesarily use it when I'm trying to convince anyone that the ambience from the verb is real ambience from the room--it has more of that dramatic eighties Lexicon sound--but it does that sound very well. Thanks for the reply djui5 and cgarges! Im asking because I recently decided to mix more OTB than ITB, and revs and efx is most deff missing in my studio. Actually I have no good outboard efx yet, but this is gonna change very soon! Im thinking of getting a starting reverb setup containing room, hall and plate. And maby a unit for more unconventional reverbs, but I dont know wich units to buy (tried very few outboards, beeing used to Rverb/plate and RevOne/room and halls so far). A friend handed the 200 over to me and thought I would try it out. ”Dramatic sound but not real ambience”… yes I could see that. Im just getting around so far and actually lovin the first!!! preset but with a shorter decay. The sound is very warm! djui5: I´ve never got the oppurtunity to compare the 480 to the 200 having them at the same time in the studio. You mean you wouldnt use the 200 instead of the 480L if you were in a studio without the classic?, or the 2016? Is it not similar in your oppinion (but not the same of course) at all? Thanx Anders |

I like the Lex 200 , especially on drums. but it's a decent reverb in general. I'm not much of a fan of Lex reverbs in general and rarley use any one other than the occasional 200 in fact. The 200 can be a bit grainy or hard edged at times, which is i suppose why i like it on drums.

Well *MY* unit wash trashed - wasn't clearing boot test sequence and the LARC's main casing shell was melted and the LCD screen was cracked. It ALL looks & sounds like new again (better actually) and YES I believe there was re-capping done. |

I seem to remember that the 200 used a 12-bit companded ADC. Back then 16-bit wasn't happening. I think the 224 and the PCM-41/42 also were 12-bit companded. The PCM-60 was probably the first Lex with a 16-bit ADC. The 480 was 16-bit gain ranging. |

The 300 passes 20 bits on the digital I/O. The analog section contributes a lot to the sound. They do have a different character when you use digital I/O instead of analog. | |

My 300 spec's out as 18bit - unless there's been an upgrade. Joel - one thing that intrigued me was that the older units like the 224xl the 480L the 300L had a more aggressive sound in the analog domain. I suspected that and when I came here I found a lot of other seasoned pro’s said pretty the same thing. So I switched out the digital with analog where I could and they were right! Glad I did. Something about the beefy Lexicon transformer’d DAC’s I guess. |
