U67 or new?

I have a chance to buy a U67 in great shape from a freind of mine for $3500. He's had it for 30 years. It probably hasn't seen much use since he has four others and many, many mics.
Is it worth buying a vintage mic in these days of companies make great new mics?
Is this a fair price for both him and me?
Thanks

If you choose not to get it, please hook me up with the seller! The U67 is one of my favorite mics.

I paid exactly that for mine from Telefunken USA last year. Great mic, and very versatile.

My advice would be to see if you can borrow the u67 and compare it to other mics you might consider. I've found u67's can vary quite a bit, with the best of them being amazing mics. 3500 is a fair price, and a u67 uses an ef86 which is widely available unlike the ac701 or vf14 mics. If its a good u67 you'll fall in love with it and you'll have to buy it!

good luck,

Michael

It's a really good price for that mic.

But you raise a really good point.

For $3,500 there are alot of other good choices out there. None of which are any better. But different. But equal in sonic quality.

At this price point I would say it's probably a toss up. Which is probably why you're asking.

10 years from now you will almost definitely get your money back with the U67.

The other choices you might not. Because the newer ones would still be available.

By the end of the day, I got the U-67 and a KM-53, a KM-54, a KM-56 and an RCA 77 in a mega cash / trade deal!
I'm not sure how much I will use the KM's, but I couldn't pass them up!
