| Guys I got my Shadow Hills preamp from my Equinox..and people say that the preamps sounds like a Neve, in reality I do not know..because they say the transformers are: Neve, API, Sunset Sound... and I really do not get that because all the 3 different Transformers sounds basicaly Identical...and Neve and API are not almost Identical....yes the Preamps sounds very good ... Now how can you compare the Shadow Hills Mic Pre with a Neve or the Aurora GTQ2 ? |

| I heard the MonoGama at the 500 series shootout. I know a thing or two about the lineage and design that wet my desire to hear it. I like the sounds it had. There were subtle differences between the different characters of the output stages, but I would still put it in the API-ish classification more than the GTQ2 school, IMO. I did like that MonoGama at the shootout tho. |

But sometimes there's no time for a track-by-track treatment, so I'll just send the whole mix out of the DA, thru the GTQ2 MarkIII, hitting the input stage rather moderately and cranking the output, and back into the AD. Usually no EQ, just hitting the amps and transformers. The effect on the digital mix is very much comparable to outputting digital video to Kodak film - adds a real vibrancy and body to the whole thing. As I said in my original post three years ago - you'll have to pry that box from my cold dead fingers...! ![]() ![]() ![]()

| I realize it's an old thread but I just happened to have sold my GTQ2 last month. I did so out of need for money and will be on my short list to replace. I just can't say enough about this pre. I also received (according to Geoff) the first one he shipped a few years ago which is kind of sad that I let go of one of the very first. |

| I can't figure out where the OP is coming from... I bought one last week (brand new) and looked everywhere to find a used MKIII - none to be found... |

![]() I brought it over to Geoff and he said that it was one of the first ones, "perhaps a collectors item some day." Geoff replaced the power supply from the toroidal to the new switching supply from the Mark III, and fixed the uneven gain between channels. Yeah, pretty nice box. I sold a Focusrite Red 1 last night and have a True Systems Pre 8 on eBay to recoup, but I think the 4 channels of GTQ2 > 12 channels Focusrite/True. ![]()

| e , i had to resurect this thread ;) as i was curious and doing some searches on the Aurora - heard a youtube comaprission of the neve and Aurora - they both sound great - but The Aurora for sure has a wider and bigger low end and sounded a bit cleaner - with the neve having that great mid punch = both equally as good |
