Outboard substitute for the Emagic Overdrive Plugin on HipHop Kick Drums?

Man i love that Emagic Overdrive plugin on kick drums. Mostly drum machine / hip-hop kick drums. It adds this mean thumping agressiveness to the kick drum while maintaing the highend clarity that I feel most distortion plugins / guitar distortion plugns don't do. I normally even keep normalized kicks in the default settiing like amped up 6dB which is the default when opening the plugin and it just adds so much punch and "in your face-ness" with out eqing out the highend or low end that stuff like Amplitube and Guitar Rig do. The only other plug that i found comes close is the Destrukto plugin in the audio damage bundle. It seems when using the sine waveshaper in the default setting you get similar results but nothing near the Emagic sound. I AM DYING to find a piece of outboard gear that will do the same thing for me that this Emagic Overdrive plugin does. Any suggestions? If needed I can upload some audio examples of what I am talking about. Unless those Logic users out there are fimiliar with the Overdrive plugin and can point me to a piece of hardware that does the same. I heard the Thermonic Culture Culture Vulture might produce similar results?

Huh??? If you have what you like in soft form, why do you want hardware that DOES THE EXACT SAME THING.

Because i sold my TDM rig and moved over to Cubase SX and i don't use Logic. But I want that Emagic Overdrive, but they don't make it as a standalone VST. So I'm pretty much SOL until I can find some alternative.

OK then. The Overdrive plugin sucks. It sounds crappily digital. The filter sucks. The distortion sounds like an algorithm.

Your ears were used to shit. There's much better distortions for kicks and hip hop beats out there. MUCH. I suggest picking up a distressor, some overdrive pedals, and some decent pres to drive the distressor.

well that's one opinion. i know what i'm after and i have never heard anything like that plugin on my kick drums. i have all the ohm force stuff. cool. but not the sound i'm looking for. guitar pedals in general are not what i'm after either. gonna get this thermionic culture vulture on loan pretty soon. hope it does the trick.

I really liked the distortion and overdrive plugs in logic, never on guitar, but plenty of other things.

I agree! It's a cool plug. I suggest the 'lofi'-plugin (from the protools D-Fi bundle, I believe)

Cheers, Julian
