It would be better just to clean up the thread, loose personal post and leave just the posts directly related to Opals.

Dobra Utro Branislav,

Last time I was in Beograd, I was nine and Marshall Tito ran the country. We landed in Rijeka and my mother drove us from Skopje to Dubrovnik, including to the coliseum in Pula and west to Zagreb and Beograd. Even at my young age, the country was breathtakingly beautiful. It's really sad about what happened later.

PM is the best way to go here, (tyreeford@comcast.net) although as I said, I only heard them for about 15 minutes in the demo room. I was only familiar with one of the three tunes played; an AC/DC tune. The kick was much bigger than I expected, especially for 8" speakers. 8" drivers that don't require subs; that's interesting, if it turns out to be true.

I heard a 2nd guitar line on on lick that I don't remember having heard before, but I seldom listen to AC/DC for compositional subtleties.

The main point is that Rode started from scratch with a new (and very well-respected) design guy. I don't know him, but many others did. He's in my video. He wanted to know what dollar to design the speakers to hit. Freedman told him not to worry about the money, and to just design the best monitor he could and let Rode deal with the cost of production. That, in itself, is unusual. Regardless, the proof is in the hearing.

I do recognize and appreciate the supportive comments by you and others here. When I hear of more products that deserve attention, I will post that info here. Count on it. I'm headed to AES in SF next month. Don't know what I'll find there, maybe some friendly GearSlutz folks. That'd be fun.

Regards,

Ty Ford

Thanks Ty, I do appreciate that you can rise above some of the comments and still be able to support and contribute to GS. I guess years of dealings at rec.audio.pro have prepared you for that! Since the creation of GS, I unfortunately don't visit R.A.P. anymore.

When you filter out some of the noise and yahoo's, GS is actually a really impressive collection of members that mutually respect each other (I'm sure that comes across sometimes), and when it comes to gear, this is by far my favorite site, due to contributors like you

the following sage advice, courtesy of our yiddish brethren, is not directed at anyone in particular, because imho it's a great rule of thumb to live by:

if, in the course of your day, you encounter a man who says, "you look like an ass," politely thank him and move on.

if, not long thereafter, you then encounter a different man who says," you look like an ass," go and buy yourself a saddle.

Hey guys. We are an Event dealer and we have been told these will ship November of this year. I was at the launch and I was impressed as was everyone else I talked to there. I think it's worth a look if you are looking at monitors in that price range. We shot some video of the actual listening session. It's the last video on page.

Anyone know where you can get the best pre-order price on these monitors?

I'm between these, Solo 6Be's and the new Focal line and was gonna do some price comparisons...

thanks!

Event should also change it's logo.
Apparently the new product is not on the market yet so they could still upscale this....

"Event's new Opal studio monitor is expected to ship a bit later than originally planned, our inside contact at Event is saying they will probably start arriving in US stores sometime in January."

The twins are about the same cost, if not a little more.

Had these on order with Sweetwater. Just got a call with some bad news: they've been delayed till late January. It always amazes me that these companies can't estimate these things better, but I guess I don't know what goes on to get something to production. Bummer. I was anxious to give these babies a try.

Love the infighting!

It's what make GS great!

Hey, how do I get paid to go to Las Vegas and see Opals?

In any case, the Opals look like a very big improvement on monitor technology.

When are these going to be out? It's past mid November.

That's not what he said at all. Now I'm starting to wonder whether Peeder was on to something.

I dunno... I could see how that statement could be taken a couple different ways. Is it really necessary to stir things up from 2 and half months ago though?

I only have a couple of hours on them.

I don't think you'll need a sub unless you really like breezing your ankles, and some folks do. The low end, given the diameter of the woofer, is very impressive. I actually dialed it back one notch on the monitor (for now) because the acoustic and electric bass sounded more like what you'd expect in live sound, if that makes any sense. Very snappy and very full.

Very clear through the mids. Walking around in the studio during playback, even behind them, the clarity was still there from what was coming off the back wall. The back wall, BTW, is a 13 foot wide, floor to ceiling wall of albums on shelves, so it's like one big MF diffusion wall.

I need more time on 'em with different sources, different pieces I really know, stick my face in them but even at this point, they deserve your time.

A pisser that they are coming out in such a messed up economy. Don't know what it's like where you are, but it's pretty busted here in Baltimore.

Regards,

Ty Ford

Thanks Ty For the Mini Review, looking forward to your full review.
But your right with the economy where it is, it is going to be rough to shell out 3 grand for a set of monitors, if they were under 2 i might have considered them.
