Thread Starter | UA 2-610 Vs. Great River MP2NV - Opinions sought. I'm about to buy one or the other. Somewhat torn, but leaning toward the GR for it's overall versatility. I currently use U87, Røde Classic, TLM 103, AT4060 & 4033a, SM57 mics. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers. |

i'd also check out the Phoenix DRS-2, especially if you use your TLM-103 alot. It's a nice combination. -R | |

| I like and have used both for different reasons. It would depend on what you're using it for.

Thread Starter | Thanks for the replies. Primary use is for vocals, guitars - acoustic/electric and bass (DI). I currently have a Grace 101 and a Focusrite Platinum Voice Master. |

| I've got both and while I enjoy the two, I agree that the Great River would probably better suit your needs. I actually tried the 2-610 last night for a guitar and vocal demo and it sounded pretty darn good, but I've had more success stories with the Great River to date. They both have wonderful DI's...I'm not sure which one I'd pick going by the DI sound. Anyway, my thoughts ![]() -Mike |

| I like the DI better on the 2-610 and I also dig it for vocals. For acoustic and electric guitars mic'ed it's a toss up for me. Depends on the guitar, player and mic. |

| I own both. They each have thier place but if I had to choose 1 it would be the Great River. More versatile, over-drives in a nicer way. The 610 is a killer bass di and excels when used on a screaming vocalist through an Sm58. For $$$, the Great River. Chris |

| i agree with everyone about the 2-610. great pre, but not as versatile as the great river. i recorded an entire classical guitar cd through the 2-610 and got a nice, fat, intimate sound. but certainly not open. if you need more open and bite, go for the GR. (get both!) i did a side by side comparison of the Great River pre and a Focusrite ISA 110. i found the 110 to be superior in terms of noise, open-ness, smothness, eq-ability, everything. i told this to the maker (we live in the same town) and after showing me how he puts everything together, he let me use another one. i still like the ISA 110 better. but the GR is a very good pre. and you can't get 110's anymore. and the isa 428's with the "110" setting are not as good. must be those lundahl transformers. |
