Eventide Eclipse vs H7600/H8000 soundwise only

Hey, I have an Eventide eclipse atm which im very happy with. I really only use it for some nice reverbs/delays and the pitch stuff. Im not really into programming and just tweek the parametres of the presets which nearly allways gets the sound to where i want it to go. I also never have had a problem with editing on the unit... maybe because I got a unit with a later OS.

The question i have is if the newer flagship units like the H7600 and the H8000actually sound better?. I know they have a lot of power and they do a hell of a lot more, but again im not really bothered about multiple simultaneous effects on different channels and sampling capabilities.

For example does say the 'Blackhole' preset on the ecplise sound the same as the 'blackhole' preset on the H8000? or does it just sound so much better on the H8000 due to extra dsp?

I've tried to like the eclipse at least 3 times but its a dog if you ask me. too dark
bland, reverb yuk but the pitch is good. I've owned H7600 and its miles ahead
in converters and analog design. I have a h8000FW, Love it

This is interesting, i know H8000 users dawg the eclipse because the OS is just not in the same league for ease of use and getting things done. But i since have been told by two reputable sales guys and an eventide rep that down to just pure sound generation they are the same. They even share some of the same algos, with the H series having a lot more obviously.

lesson # 1 Never listen to a sales guys ...some algorithms may be the same. a small few like- thru, mute but the converters and analog design pale in comparison to the H7600 or H8000FW. The Reverb is bland one flavor. Then you have the black hole which is used for what? The sound quality difference is huge to my ears and thats due to the converters and analog design.

The eclipse sounds dark and metallic where the H8000 sound alive to me. I've owned eventide gear for the last 12 years and i know what sounds good owning
system 6000, Bricasti, PCM96,H8000 If you like the unit and it works for you
your good but i could never love that piece. I like my g-force or MPX-1 much better.

Now as for the presets sounding better on a H7600 or H8000 YES and not because of the DSP well maybe, but its the converters and a bad analog design in a cheaper model that make the Eclipse sound metallic and dark. you get what you pay for sometimes.

Good to know... allthough that doesnt help me. So what about the eventide guy then?. I own the eclipse and i think it sounds great, ive heard samples of the same untweaked presets in the H8000 and i honestly couldnt tell the difference but im open to exploring it further as i love eventide gear.

I take your point about the converters and the analog stage though. Thats a very credible point in favour of the H8000. I was just about to agree with you up until the point where you said the MPX-1 sounded better. Sorry man, that MPX-1 is a decent box but blows in comparison to the eclipse.
Following that logic I should hope the H8000 sounds better if you think the MPX-1 is better than the eclipse...which to me is just not true and now that argument makes no sense.

Thanks for the response anyway

Well I like the reverb and delay much better in the mpx-1 and i consider my ears good Obviously the pitch shifting in the eclipse will blow it away...Everytime i bought an eclipse i couldn't take the reverb for long... i know what good reverb is and i know many who agree....How have i not answered your question. the H7600 and H8000 sound like they are in a different league compared to the eclipse..what more can i say

I am an Eclipse owner and I love it.

Having said that...the pitching and effects are awesome and Eventide quality all the way. The reverbs are just Ok.

I sold my Fireworx for the Eclipse, because as a multi-FX sound design tool it is great. However the only time I rely on the verbs is for live work.

Well the eventide rep told me that the analog section in both units were the same, but that the converters in the Ultra's were newer and had 2db extra dynamic range. Presets with the same name as those in the eclipse were indeed the same, but again the Ultra's had a lot more plus nicer reverbs too.

No, Any honest Eventide rep will tell you the algorithms are build different with shortcomings because the Eclipse DSP could not handle algorithms from the h8000or h7600...

i have experience with both units and to me they are indeed different.
but the Eclipse is no slouch at all. i'll put it this way: the Eclipse won't hold anyone back. great music can be made with it.
