Wunder PEQ-2r...samples inside

I've been meaning to put this up. Really nice pre. I would say it has an extended high end in comparison to the 1073 - maybe a little punchier. Huge bottom. Doesn't sound as round as the Aurora GTQ, but that's a matter of taste. Kind of a 1073 that caught something from an API during a trist in New York.
First of all, my apologies to the great Paul Davis (RIP) and those of you that like to hear stuff in tune...I just ran through this acapella with a break in between, so they're neither in tune or in tune with each other...
One is just a raw vocal without any compression or verb. The next was tracked with a Retro Sta-Level knocking off the peaks (ok, maybe a little more than peaks) and a UAD-1 Plate 140 Verb. There is no EQ on either track. The mic was a Wunder CM7. (Why the hell doesn't Mike give me an endorsement? You listening, Mike? )

Oops...looks like the dry one isn't dry - has some verb on it...I'll fix it and get another one up...

John, song sounds great! I really like what I'm hearing. I'm glad you got the NEW PEQ2, it seems a lot of people around here don't yet know about this new piece--at least I haven't seen much chatter. So thanks for posting. I've got the PA4 with the old transformers. I'd love to get a new PEQ2 into my studio to compare side by side.

Question for ya; how close did you sing to the CM7 when you recorded this? It sounds a little thin. I've got the same mic. I was told the trick is to sing as close as possible, with your nose almost right up into the grille, that way you get the big proximity effect. After I tried that, it was night and day...

Sounds beautiful! Fine voice, fine recording.

I would like to hear more of that PEQ2, and especially more of the Sta-Level.

Oh Lord, don't start the whole "Is your CM7 broken? Mine sounds thicker..." I've flogged that deceased equine for many a season. BTW - I was probably about 6-8 inches away. I agree that there's great proximity effect when close up on the mic, but I've been trying not to eat the mic because it can be hard to mix when doing that...I'll post another one where I'm right up on it. I'll also post one that's more of a finished product.

LOL, John I don't think there's anything wrong with your mic! I know you went through alot of hassel with many mics, according to your posts'. No need to second guess what you've got. The CM7 is an amazing mic. I thought everything sounded good. I was only saying that "in my humble experience," I think the greatness of the CM7 really comes alive when singing close. But to each his own.

Now onto the main topic... Have you ever used the Wunder PEQ1? If so, how does it compare to the new PEQ2? Do we need to run out and trade in the old for the brand new shiney one?

thanks for enlightening us!

John, are you going to keep it? How does it stack up to your favorite preamps?
