P12 Build Quality

Hi Everyone,

I own a P12, and for the money couldn't be happier. I've done Midside with it several times and it sounds great.
As far as the build quality, I find nothing lacking. (just a consumer, not a dealer). When I first took it out of its box I was struck by how great it looked. Before the flaming starts I know looks have nothing to do with anything other than what pleases a persons eye. It's the performance.
It has a nice heft and feels real solid. I think you could probably beat someone to death with it and still make a great recording afterwards.
When I first joined Slutz I just read and kept my mouth shut. I certainly don't want to open any can of worms, but I remember at that time a lot of members owned
Sound Delux mics. I myself was lusting after one but couldn't afford them. There were a lot of posts on them about build quality, and in a bunch of cases, the lack of. (quality control)This however had no bearing on what most people thought of their sound quality.
My point is, that any product can have it flaws. I never got my Sound Delux because of their price. Even after all the negative quality control issues that were discussed here, I would have still bought one, had money not been the issue, because of the general views on their sound.
The P12 is a good mic. It's not a C12 but does deliver when called on and matched up with the right pre and the right source. The only issue I had, from the start, was the shock mount. I however solved that little negative.
As stated by many of the other members, get one and try it. If it fits your voice and plays well with your other gear, then you've got a winner.
I hope my 2 cents has been somewhat helpful.

Hi Pikapikapi

The only pre I have used mine with is a Pendulum MDP-1. The P12 sounds great with it. As far a recommending other pre's for it, I'm sorry I can't be of further help. I am however almost at the end of building 2 SCA N72 pres. I am anxious to try it out with those.
I have a Bellari RP520, (please no verbal torture) that my tech completely rebuilt. Jensen trannies, Burr Browns, NOS tubes and a complete redesign of the front end gain staging. Funny I never tried that mic in that pre. One of these days I'll have to get off my dead butt and give it a whirl.
Sorry I couldn't be of further help. Have a great day.

My 2 cents - Peluso's build quality is excellent. Far above what is usual in this price range. I don't have to test their mics before I send them, because I know that they are going to be flawless in fit/finish and the failure rate is almost non existent (which is not the case with all mic companies in this range or even more expensive). The PSU's are A++ too IME (fit/finish and electronically also).
