Rosetta 200 question; sync to soundcard

I am trying to run as much of my equipment chain as possible in the digital realm using the Rosetta 200 at each end to do the conversion. I have it working but only at a sample rate of 44.1. When I try a higher rate such as 96 the units don't seem to sync and all kinds of pulsating popping stuff happens.

I have it patched together in the following way: mic pre-->compressor--->rosetta analogue in--->AES out (rosetta)--->AES in (lex PCM 91) ----> AES out (lex PCM 91) ---> AES in (MOTU 1224). The MOTU 1221 is set in the software to 1221 AES for the clock source. The software (Sonar 2.0) shows the 1221 AES also as the clock source. Basically the reverse for the output. 1221 AES out ----> AES in (rosetta) ----> analogue out (Rosetta) to monitors.

Is the MOTU going to be a limitation in sample rate, even if I use an external clock (Rosetta)? The MOTU only has 44 and 48 when using it as a standalone unit. Also, the Lexicon only seems to work at 44 and 48.

Is there a way to set all this up at a 96 sample rate? Do I need to upgrade my card to one that will support 96 or 192?

I am mostly using the Lexicon to add to the final mix, some tracking and for monitoring. Is it best to keep it in the digital realm and stay at 44 or would I be better off just using the analogue ins/outs and keep the digital stuff at the higher rate.

Sorry if these are obvious questions but the digital stuff confuses the hell out of me. If I could get it clear in my head what is going on I could actually use this stuff up to its potential. Thanks John.

First off, I would pull the Lexicon out of there and use the analog inputs/outputs. These should be fed by separate I/Os on your interface from a send/return setup in Sonar.

Second, the clock source should be set in Sonar as external (on re-reading I think you have that set up correctly,) basically deriving the clock from the Rosetta.

And if the 1224 does not support 96k, then yes you would have to upgrade the interface. This will have no impact on your Lex unit as it is functioning in the analog realm. I find the converters on the PCM to be more than sufficient for effect use.
