Thread Starter | Anyone tried this combo, Soundelux U99 and a UA La-610 or Ua6176 or 2-610 pre Opinions on people who have tried this combo. What sound did they get and what did they felt best suits this sound. The good and the bad of the sound they got. Ta |

| Lives for gear | Well so you have some kind of response I can tell you what I have tried the U99 with. I don't have UA pre's but have tried these: Chandler 1272 ATI Pro6 Cranesong Flamingo Avalon 2022 Avalon 737 API 3124 Vintech X81 Vintech 473 Great River Focusrite Amek 9098 Out of all those I typically like the Cranesong Flamingo regardless of the singer with my U99. I love that pre for lead vocals. For BU's I always use different mics, pre's and comps. |

| We've got a U99 and a 6176. It's a great combo for some vocalists. Play around with the impedance switch and 15db pad. Be careful with gainstaging unless you like distortion. |

| u99->6176 is my normal vocal chain... sounds great for rock stuff. Have to be very careful not to distort the pre, but it sounds amazing...just have to pull a little low end off and the vox seem to sit pretty well as the mic is pretty bright. i love to spank it though the 6176 again through mixing especially for the crushing distortion the tubes can generate. -brian |

| I engineer at a client's McMansion studio and he has this set-up. We have been un-impressed with the sound. I found it to be very colored but not in a good way. It was hard to get the vocals to sit clearly in the mix. I just think the 2 pieces don't play well together. That's a shame for how much he spent on them. We switched to using the Soundelux with an Earthworks mic pre and haven't looked back yet. I do like the 6176 on bass and guitar though. Chris |

| Lives for gear | I use a U99b along with a M610, and depending on the singer/singing style it can be a really good sounding combo. on softer singing styles however I feel the need to roll off some bass to make the U99b not overly bassy. maybe something with a more forward upper midrange like a daking would be the perfect choice. I do not have the money right now to get a bright preamp like a daking, so I live with eq....not bad anyway! the results kick ass, the U99b has a totally in your face sound, fullsize, love it! and I have to agree, the M610 really kills as a bass preamp! Rock On! Pat |
