Shameless plug #3 - Focal SM8 2.1 digital monitoring system

Okay, here goes...

I spent most of tonight listening to my favorite mixes through a 2.1 system based on Focal's SM8 series, prepping and burning them in for an eval to a famous engineer (and fellow Gearslut) who shall remain nameless.

I used to distribute ATC monitors back in 1990 and 91, and I loved them (and still do). I spent several years working with Truth Audio to help launch their speaker line and I loved them them too (and still do).

I have tracked/mixed/edited and just plain listened through Genelecs, Tannoys, Truths, Dynaudios, Meyers, ATCs, Mackies, NS10s and Westlakes - and I have great respect for most of them.

But tonight, in the privacy of my own room; with Achtung Baby, The Commitments Soundtrack, Kerry Livgren, Dark Side of the Mooon (remastered box set edition), Rage Against the Machine, 50 Cent, Back in Black, Phil Keaggy, Queensrych Empire, Stevie Ray, Jack Bruce, John Pattitucci, ABC How to be a Millionnaire, Peter Gabriel and more on playback - I am completely blown away.

I'd say I was speachless but then - there'd be no post!! ;-)

Since the proof is in the pudding, I am going on the road to do some clinics and demos. Anyone interested in checking out these amazing speakers (Beryllium tweeter at 40kKz bandwidth, AES/EBU as well as analog i/o, full software control via Mac, PC, or Palm) should check in with me as I'll be coming to a town/studio/dealer near you and would be happy to put these monitors to the test.
