1073DPD Stereo Mic Preamp's vs. the Mic preamps within the prism orpheus?
My budget will allow for

a) 1 prism orpheus or,

b) Neve 1073dpd interfaced through an apogee ensemble

I need firewire as i am using a macbook pro.

Wondering if the Prism preamps would be 'just as good' as the neve's

I understand the neve is colored and the prism less so.

I do alot of acoustic and electronic music

What would you opt for and why?

Thanks

Get the Orpheus first. Good clean pres that can be used on everything. And the converters just kick some serious ass.

Wait, why the DPD? I'm guessing because it's converters, which are in the WAY high-end Weiss/Prism category... and I bet (almost guarantee) a set of Neve pres is better than the stock pre on the Orpheus.

Remember (and I own a Prism ADA 8XR and LOVE it, so don't get me wrong... I also own the DPD)...

Prism doesn't have the history of making pres, while Neve does both in the obvious classic pre pedigree to converters in their way high-end large-format consoles.

Worth considering.

You cant really compere Transformless (Prism) to transformer I\O (Neve),
There is not whose better,
I havent heard the prism but i do know the flavour of clean pres ver. colored and its just apples versus oranges (cheesy, I know...)

Start off with the prism and its clean pres and later add to your setup a Neve or Neve'ish type preamp.
