I'm north of the Bay Area in Sacramento. I used to be at Hyde Street Studios a lot. Did some stuff upstairs with Stephen Jarvis, Mark Wilsher, Paul Stubbenbine and David Denny. If you see any of those guys tell 'em hi.

Another here -- Straight from the HEART of the bay. S.F. itself.

Yeah, Henry,, Paul has his own place now. It's over on Mission, across the street from the old Guitar Center location (you know Guitar Center turned to a PRO, and moved to VanNess now to a HUGE 3 story place !! Real nice)..

I got my place out here in the Ingleside district of S.F. It is my own place unknown from the previous popular older places. It's "Roulette Recording Facility", and pretty nice.. The website will be up soon. It is a sister business to my indie record label Roulette Records.. Yes ALL S.F. based..

Good to see so many others out here in the bay !!

It's kinda dry out here man. Studio/music business ain't what it was about 10 years ago. It has gotten so cheap for everyone to buy DECENT enough gear, and try to make their own stuff. At least in LA or NY you still got some rich katz that wanna do it right so they decide to spend real loot for a real recording.. I mean I love my Bay Area, but it seems everyone out here is the ol' "looking for a deal" cheap type of bastards..

No one see's the benifit of going to real places like Hit Factory, Sterling Sound, or Larabee's ...
That is why no real places like those ever opened a chain out here. Or no new ones started.. LA and NY are also blessed with MANY already stars of the industry,, out here we have had the time and the chance, but NO ONE is out here man !! It sucks...

But so we don't feel so bad, I actually heard this kinda business is drying up for EVERYONE, even in LA and NY.. You can blame DAW's for that. Pro Tools, Logic, etc.. is why people refuse to pay $150 an hour at a top notch spot. And the way Bush got this economy,, we NEED like $150 an hour just to be able to wipe our asses !!!

I'm fed up with broke wanna be stars,, you gotta PAY real to do anything real in this world, and people that realize that will rise to the top, those that don't will just keep this music stuff a HOBBIE to themselves...

I am gratefull for some good business that has come my way. But most is from previous successfull albums we have done together, so they come back, and /or from actual companies (mostly video game) EA Sports, Sega, etc... And then I got some of the ELITE few that do actually see the reason for high quality stuff, and why sounding ALMOST like the pro's is different than sounding EXACTLY as good as the pro's... Which is why the saying, "you get what you pay for" comes in. They see that, and stay faithful to knowing I got tha SH#T man !!! I got most of them from just hearing my sound, loving it, and asking how to get it....

If I had to rely on some of these other hip hop katz, or any other of these "looking for a deal" people, I would be on Haight St. at that McDonalds asking you for spare change for a 99ยข burger !!

I'm over here in Fremont.

I guess I'm one of the bastards contributing to the decline of the industry (in some people's minds). I have a home studio set up and am a partner in a start up indie record label.

Anyway, good luck to you all. Hopefully we'll cross paths in the future.

btw - I LOVE the bay area, originally from NM.

peace,
Ants

Hiya-

I'm a SF Slut as well.

Infa - If I'm not mistaken the Paul you're talking about has a studio with my buddy Michael Romonowski. I've yet to see their space but it sounded lovely from Michael's description.

I've had peeps in Hyde and also Different Fur (R.I.P.). I love the old studios in the Bay Area. So much character. In Hyde my friends used to have this huge upstairs live room with a mural on one wall the Greatful Dead were rumored to have painted. Cool studio.

Pray for still earth.

Well, I'm sorta still there.

I'm a full time engineer, and I lived and worked for 10 years in the Bay Area, partly from my oddball South-of-Market space, and for years as staff and chief engineer at Boomtown in Sausalito. I'm residing in Florida these days, doing mostly mixing (and some mastering, even though the twain aren't supposed to meet); I'm just about as busy as I can handle, with the bulk of my client base still out there (+ some in New York and elsewhere). I fly out to San Francisco about every six to 8 weeks for some tracking sessions, working here by FTP and Fedex the rest of the time.

My production partner Ben has taken over the reigns at Coast Recorders, and he and the crew are doing some fine work bringing that room back to life. The bulk of our work is being tracked there now ... And BTW, Lee -- Michael Romanowski and Paul Stubblebine's mastering suites are in the same building, and are really nice rooms ... Pay them a visit and check it out, or maybe I'll drag you over there next time I'm in town.

It was a blast meeting some of you (notably David R, and Barefoot) at the Gearslutz dinner, and perhaps at the Coast Recorders party during AES (I was the tired-looking guy scrambling the Zigaboo Modeliste levels behind the Neve). Maybe we can have a "gearslutz dinner club" in town from time to time.

I'm in Mill Valley.

Born in SF, lived here my whole life. Built a freestanding analog (MM-1200)/digital (Pro Tools HD3) music/post studio here, but spend most of my time as a supervising sound editor at Skywalker Sound.

Sorry, missed your party. Which night?

Must have been hard to get the word out, so many parties, so little time.

You should throw another one, less competition now.

Grew up in Mill Valley, currently in Novato here in Marlevous Marin. I work all over the Bay Area (except San Jose!) doing live sound and recording.

Fiercely independent; I do everything from tracking and mixing musicians' projects to spoken word and lecture recording. This month I have been making CDs from live multitracks and demos for students to get into Julliard and such schools. Tomorrow i record a 16 year old soprano who gives me chills with her powerful and beautiful voice. Monday a young harpist.

Other current project is a great live show by a Western Swing band, who want to do a live CD from my house mix.

September I did a musical theater show with 7 wireless mics, five piece band, singing and dancing and splashy sound effects.

Life is full of variety for me! Hardly ever do rock and roll, and never miss it!

Damn typos! "Marvelous Marin" is an old chamber of commerce phrase for Marin County. I have no idea what marlevous might mean.
